Granville Lodge

Children and ’s Young People Services Centre Overview

Our Services

Located in a quiet residential area in Hartlepool, Granville Lodge is a specialist centre providing long-term and short-break individualised support for young people with profound multiple learning disabilities (intellectual disabilities) and complex health needs.

Medium to Long-term Care

Short-break care

This service is designed to care for children and young people with complex health problems who are unable to be cared for at home, due to the severity of their condition. Young people requiring this type of service often have long-term physical health needs and require high and specialist levels of skilled care, in order to maintain their general health and to prevent any other complications from arising. The focus of this service is on increasing participation in everyday activities, including mainstream education wherever possible and encouraging independence for each child, despite mobility and other physical restrictions.

This service is available to children and young people with complex health problems who are living at home. By offering short-break placements, the families/carers can have some time to rest, in the knowledge that their child/young person will receive a high quality of care and support.

Granville Lodge is situated within a mile of the centre of Hartlepool with its numerous shops, amenities and marina. Favourite attractions for our young people include the Maritime Experience, local parks and beaches, the Alan Shearer Centre in Newcastle and Butterfly World in Stockton. Our 9 bedroom specially adapted Victorian house provides both longer-term care placements and short-break care. The children and young people who access our service have complex long-term conditions, such as epilepsy, cerebral palsy and other associated health difficulties, for example, tracheostomy care and PEG feeding.

Our team has a wide range of experience and expertise in ensuring that our young people’s long-term care needs are met. Where necessary, other specialist professionals are involved to review and maintain their quality of life.

Our centre provides children and young people with a safe and homely environment, whilst ensuring that they receive a high level of individualised care and support. We believe that individualised assessment and care planning is a key element for the children and young people and where possible, we involve the young person, their families/carers and other involved professionals. This ensures we can evaluate the care effectively and work towards reaching the young person’s individual goals. This individual approach to care planning is a key element in daily life at Granville Lodge.
