Welcome and Announcements +Prelude.................. “Blessed Assurance” .................. Robert Lau Call to Worship ................................................ Isaiah 51:9-11 Minister: Awake, awake, put on strength, O Arm of the LORD; awake, as in days of old, the generations of long ago. People: Was it not you who cut Rahab in pieces, who pierced the dragon? Minister: Was it not you who dried up the sea, the waters of the great deep, who made the depths of the sea a way for the redeemed to pass over? People: And the ransomed of the LORD shall return and come to Zion with singing; everlasting joy shall be upon their heads; they shall obtain gladness and joy, and sorrow and sighing shall flee away. All: Amen! Let us worship the God of our eternal salvation!

Assurance of Pardon ............................................. Psalm 32

Praise God from whom all blessings flow; praise Him, all creatures here below; praise Him above, ye heav’nly host: praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. Amen.

Psalm 32 reminds us: “Blessed is the one whose transgression is forgiven, whose sin is covered. Blessed is the man against whom the LORD counts no iniquity, and in whose spirit there is no deceit. . . I acknowledged my sin to you, and I did not cover my iniquity; I said, ‘I will confess my transgressions to the LORD,’ and you forgave the iniquity of my sin.” We give thanks to God that “He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”

Affirmation of Faith .....The Heidelberg Catechism, Lord’s Day 5 Q 12. According to God’s righteous judgment we deserve punishment both now and in eternity: how then can we escape this punishment and return to God’s favor? A. God requires that his justice be satisfied. Therefore the claims of this justice must be paid in full, either by ourselves or by another. Q 13. Can we make this payment ourselves? A. Certainly not. Actually, we increase our debt every day. Q 14. Can another creature—any at all—pay this debt for us? A. No. To begin with, God will not punish any other creature for what a human is guilty of. Furthermore, no mere creature can bear the weight of God’s eternal wrath against sin and deliver others from it. Q 15. What kind of mediator and deliverer should we look for then? A. One who is a true and righteous human, yet more powerful than all creatures, that is, one who is also true God.

There is a fountain filled with blood, drawn from Immanuel’s veins; and sinners, plunged beneath that flood, lose all their guilty stains: lose all their guilty stains, lose all their guilty stains; and sinners plunged beneath that flood, lose all their guilty stains.

Our Father, who art in heaven; hallowed be Thy name. Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil; for Thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.

Please complete the black Fellowship Folder and pass down the pew.

The bottom line is that 700 years before Jesus was born, Isaiah writes with such clarity about Jesus’ suffering, death, burial, resurrection, and victory. Isaiah also writes as if these events have already occurred! This entire section of Holy Scripture, written 700 years before Christ’s life and death, confirms to us that the Bible is the inspired, inerrant, and infallible Word of God. Thanks be to God that the gospel is true, trustworthy, and worthy of universal acceptance!
