Greet ings Dear Parents, Guardians and Youth, I pray that this note finds you and your family blessed of the Lord and thankful to God for His limitless love and abiding mercies. Indeed, God is good and greatly to be praised. I hope you had a wonderful summer filled with fun and relaxation. It is with extreme delight that I welcome you to our annual Youth Open House. Investing in our youth is of utmost importance to us here at Alfred Street Baptist Church. We believe that our investment is mandated by God as it is given to us in Proverbs 22:6, “Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it.” It is with this mandate in mind that the youth ministries offered here have been developed. We trust that you will explore, join and participate in these ministries as you seek to do God’s will in becoming doers of His Word. We pray that you will become strong followers of our Lord and Savior Jesus the Christ. Again, welcome and get involved as we move into a banner year in and for Christ Jesus. Alive Because He Died,

Rev. Dr. Howard-John Wesley Alfred Street Baptist Church, Pastor Greetings Alfred Street Youth Families, God is working mightily in the life of our youth ministries at Alfred Street Baptist Church! Many of you are familiar with our ministry offering, but there is always something new! Within this programme you will find the details for key ministry events, and certain “not to miss” activities. Moreover, I hope you will enjoy a special section on each page entitled, “Why I serve” where each ministry leader has shared a bit of their passion for following God’s call. For those that I will meet over the upcoming year, I personally want to share, “why I serve”. I serve, because I truly believe God has called me to share and shape a generation of young people to become believers that are unashamed witnesses and demonstrators of Christ’s love. Our youth are our greatest treasures and our brightest hope, yet they face great temptation that seeks to detour them from their God-appointed destiny. Our job is to equip them with a solid foundation to be BOLDLY planted in God’s word—that is the reason why I and the youth ministry leaders serve. I celebrate the opportunity to make as a watermark of our ministry an inviting place where all our youth regardless of path can be assured that God has something special for them and that there is a place here at ASBC that affirms that this is “my” youth ministry. Please pray with and for us, but most certainly partner with us as we pursue the abundance of what Christ has purposed. Psalm 127 reminds us that children are like arrows in the hand of an archer. On behalf of all who serve with me, we delight in raising our Christian bow to launch our youth into the greatness of what God has destined. This is God’s field, we labor together to exalt the name of our Lord in our youth through this wonderful Alfred Street Baptist Church youth ministry! For the Greater Glory of God!

James: I grew up in Fort Washington, MD and was taught to have faith, love, trust, and serve the Lord at an early age. However, the importance of these early lessons didn’t become real to me until I became faced with various trials and tribulations of my own in adulthood. God has delivered me from so many difficult times that I am proud to be a witness and chosen as God’s vessel to spread His Word; particularly to the youth at ASBC. God has blessed this ministry with a team of His servants that also love and serve Him unconditionally. It is a joy and a blessing to see our teens grow spiritually and develop a relationship with God that will last them a lifetime. I’m humbled and grateful to witness all of God’s many blessings and be part of such a wonderful ministry! This is typically displayed by our teens through drama, music, and dance. • Eagle Eyrie: The Baptist General Convention of Virginia assembles an annual Youth Retreat to empower and equip youth to be all that God has ordained them to be. Through invigorating worship, engaging learning sessions, and exciting activities many youth and youth leaders are transformed each year in Lynchburg, VA. • Senior Youth Sunday: This is a very important event as it tends to builds the spiritually maturity and confidence amongst all of our teens. The teens are challenged to use their spiritual gifts and talents to sing, dance, speak, or act; gifts that some are uncomfortable with sharing publically especially according to God’s will. High School Seniors are selected to give a sermon for Saturday and/or Sunday Worship services. This event also displays the unity amongst all of the ASBC teen ministries (choir, dance, SYM and drama). • Teen Lock-In: To provide a relaxing and enjoyable atmosphere where teens will have the opportunity to have a fun-filled night of games and fellowship with ASBC teens. Spiritual edification is a priority; provided through open dialogue in small groups and large groups to discuss current issues teens are facing. The lock-in will consist of game time, lecture time, small groups, prayer time and opportunity for open dialogue about God’s word that is real and relevant to our teens. • End of the Year Cookout: This is a year-end event that provides an opportunity for our parent to be involved and a part of the Sr. Youth Ministry. This event fosters stronger relationships with our teens and parents; providing us an opportunity to fellowship with one another through food, games and fun. • LOTT CAREY WORK CAMP: Teens gather on the campus of Norfolk State University, Norfolk, Virginia for a week of missions, learning, serving, worship, and fellowship. Lott Carey helps churches to nurture young missionaries. During their Annual Session, they have age appropriate mission education classes and mission service projects to help teens gain more exposure to being on mission with Christ in the world.
