20/20 Vision | The Wise

20/20 Vision | The Wise

A good eye has a plan (Matthew 6:19-34). In other words, experiencing abundant life financially involves intentionality (i.e. a budget). Throughout the Bible God consistently wants us to be wise with our money in the ways we spend it, save it, and give it. Having a financial strategy helps us avoid the anxiety or stress that money can produce in our lives. A good eye plans to be generous through tithes and offerings, plans for the unexpected by saving, and plans to act its wage by using debt sparingly.

From Matthew 6:25-31, what things does God not want us to worry or be anxious about? What is the key idea about the heart and character of God in these verses that enables us to not worry or be anxious? According to Proverbs 21:5, the plans of the diligent lead to abundance while those who are hasty come only to poverty. When it comes to our finances, what does it practically look like to be a diligent planner versus and hasty spender? What makes each of these challenging? In Proverbs 22:7, what makes a borrower a slave to a lender? Is there such a thing as good debt? What should be our attitude towards debt?

Take time as a group to ask God for wisdom in everything you do, but especially concerning your finances. Thank Him for the specific ways He has blessed you, and ask Him for forgiveness when you have failed to acknowledge His provision. Confess those areas in which you have not fully trusted in His heart. Ask Him to give you fresh vision in how to be wise with your money.
