95 Years of Leadership In 2015, the Kansas City Royals baseball team electrified the business community after back-to-back World Series appearances, culminating in KC’s domination of the New York Mets to be the World Champions. On a smaller scale, the Independence Chamber draws inspiration from those wins because it’s easy to see parallels with our own history as a Chamber. After a number of years that were not the best, the Chamber got new leadership and rebuilt its team from the ground up. It is a truism that strong players excel and find ways to win, and that is exactly what we have seen with the new Chamber organization. I couldn’t be more proud of the Chamber staff for the way that they pulled together, overcame obstacles, and made 2015 a great year. Our volunteers were exceptional and the businesses that make up the essence of the team, our members, have re-engaged and reinvigorated us. I offer my personal thanks and appreciation to everyone that got involved with the Chamber, and I consider it a singular honor to have served as Chairman of the board of directors. Our business IS business and the best is yet to come. Brad Speaks, 2015 Chairman of the Board
The Independence Chamber of Commerce endeavors to, through its partnership with the City of Independence and various community councils, build sustainable economic growth. We are relentless in advocating for a pro-business climate while simultaneously building upon our educational foundation, developing a workforce that is rich in tradition and, clearly, a key to our future. Our priority in our tag line, Our Business is Business, is to assist in maintaining a vibrant economy that is capable of executing upon the community’s vision for our citizens. We are but one piece of the landscape, but one whose position is strong and growing in number and commitment to making Independence the preferred center of commerce for existing and prospective businesses. We are truly blessed to have an engaged, participative board of directors, diverse in its make-up and approach but united in its belief that a collaborative, inclusive and active Chamber will ultimately meet its goals. It is a privilege and honor for me to serve with them, building on the momentum we have realized over the past few years. Our President, Hap Graff, and the Chamber Staff are second to none in their energy, enthusiasm and acumen. In short, it’s a great time to be a Chamber member! I hope all of you will take the time to realize the benefits of being a Chamber member, of giving back to your community, of helping to build something that we can all look on with pride – a bright future for Independence and all of its citizens. Get involved and be a part of it – we’re just getting started!! Dave Williams, 2015 Chair-Elect

“I cannot say enough good things about the Independence Chamber. What a huge asset they are for our community. From the business development opportunities they offer to businesses; to leadership development training through the LEAD Program, they are a very dynamic organization. As a recent graduate of LEAD, I can tell you that the training we received impacts my life daily. What a great organization! “ -Jordan Ellena, Management Analyst, City of Independence-
