SENT: Week 24 – How To Kill A Movement Open in Prayer W elcom e/Introductions/Cast Vision Rem ind the Grow Group of the ground rules Share background for the story [Provide context by sharing what comes before the story.]

The ministry of Paul & Barnabas in Lystra centered on the healing of a lame man, and the people’s attempt to worship them. Later the crowds, stirred up by the Jews, would stone Paul and drag him out of the city. Paul, un-wavered by this, continued the journey eventually returning to Antioch and reporting all that the Lord had done through them. Tell the story – Acts 15:1-32 (or smaller passage of Acts 15:1-12) [Have someone tell the story.] Rebuild the story [Group members tell the story together based on what they remember.] Read the story out loud [Read the scripture passage to see if anything was added or omitted.] Discuss these questions:

1. What do we learn about God from this passage? [God knows my heart, the intentions behind my actions; God is in control; God wants everyone to come to faith in Jesus Christ; God changes our hearts and brings transformation to our lives; God knows us completely, and yet still loves us deeply; God makes no distinction between people; salvation is a gift from God by faith, not by works or good deeds; God uses us as His instruments to bring glory to Himself and spread the gospel; etc.]

2. What do we learn about Man/Us from this passage? [I am saved by grace, and not by my performance; I set conditions on the unconditional promises of God; I am prone to create division among myself and others (us versus them); I judge others in the area of their weaknesses, but only judge myself in the areas of my strengths; I place my personal convictions upon others; I can become so obsessed with religion that I miss the relationship God wants with me; etc.]

3. What is God saying to you specifically through this passage as it pertains to your life, marriage, family, and work? 4. What is God leading you to do? Other Q uestions specific to this passage:

1. Before we met Jesus, many of us struggled with keeping up with the appearance of “having it all together.” What do you remember about those times in your life? 2. According to verse 10, what expectations or “yokes” did you place on others? Assign next week’s passage – Acts 16:1-19 [Ask someone to tell the story next week.] Close in Prayer

Sent: Week 24 – Leadership Coaching The purpose of this page is to help you sharpen your skills as a Grow Group Leader. Each week, we will include concepts, challenges, and resources designed to assist you as you lead and shepherd your Grow Group and grow as a disciple yourself.

Leading [learn to facilitate your group more effectively] Think outside of the box when fostering relationships outside of your group. What does that person like doing that you could spend time together doing? A few ideas: o Golfing o Fishing o Shopping o Getting their nails done o Kayaking o Crafting

Shepherding [know the sheep, feed the sheep, lead the sheep, protect the sheep] How is your apprentice doing? Are you giving him or her an opportunity to lead the Grow Group while you observe? If not, make plans to do that soon. After the group, meet with your apprentice one-on-one and debrief the experience with them. Ask questions like, o “What did you learn about the group while facilitating?” o “What did you learn about yourself while facilitating?” o “What do you think you did really well? o “What will you do differently the next time you facilitate?”

Developing [grow as a disciple yourself] Discipleship doesn’t happen by accident. You must be intentional. Relationships take time and effort. Pray about how you can be more intentional and supportive in discipling those in your Grow Group. Look back over the scriptures from last week (Romans 15:1, Galatians 6:2, 1 Thessalonians 5:11) about supporting one another. What truths did you take away and how can you apply them this week?
