SENT: Week 29 – Paul’s Tombstone Open in Prayer W elcom e/Introductions/Cast Vision Rem ind the Grow Group of the ground rules Share background for the story [Provide context by sharing what comes before the story.]

Paul made a final visit to the churches of Macedonia and Achaia, spending the winter in Corinth. The journey to Jerusalem continued, with an incident at Troas in which Paul restored the life of a youth. This is followed by a detailed itinerary of Paul’s next voyage. Tell the story – this week’s passage is Acts 20:17-38 [Have someone tell the story.] Rebuild the story [Group members tell the story together based on what they remember.] Read the story out loud [Read the scripture passage to see if anything was added or omitted.] Discuss these questions:

1. What do we learn about God from this passage? [God calls us to serve Him out of humility and not pride; those who follow Christ will face persecution; God gives us the strength to not “shrink back” when persecution comes; God designed us to grow as His disciples through relationships with other people (“house to house”); the mission of God is far more important than my comfort; God guides our steps and provides our needs; God desires to transform lives; God is so generous with us; etc.]

2. What do we learn about Man/Us from this passage? [Because I don’t know the future, I must walk in faith; I can only do “my part” when discipling others; I can be drawn away from Jesus by my desire for material possessions and comfort; I lack boldness in living for Jesus; I can “shrink back” when I face persecution; I need relationships with other believers to encourage me and help me in my walk with the Lord; my love for Christ should compel me to share the good news; I am self-centered; etc.]

3. What is God saying to you specifically through this passage as it pertains to your life, marriage, family, and work? 4. What is God leading you to do? Other Q uestions specific to this passage:

1. This passage details Paul’s final goodbye to many that he had discipled. Describe the emotions you felt when someone, who had invested in you, was no longer there for you. 2. What words of wisdom or encouragement would you want to leave for those you are discipling if God called you somewhere else? Assign next week’s passage – Acts 22:1-22 Close in Prayer

[Ask someone to tell the story next week.]

SENT: Week 29 – Leadership Coaching The purpose of this page is to help you sharpen your skills as a Grow Group leader. Each week, we will include concepts, challenges, and resources designed to assist you as you lead and shepherd your Grow Group and grow as a disciple yourself.

Leading [learn to facilitate your group more effectively] A great way to connect with someone is to allow them to tell you their story. You can learn a lot about a person, how they were raised and how the gospel impacted their family, by talking about family traditions. This week, start Grow Group by asking the question, “When you were growing up, what were some traditions your family had when celebrating Easter?” You can also ask how group members currently celebrate Easter as a family.

Shepherding [know the sheep, feed the sheep, lead the sheep, protect the sheep] As Grow Group leaders, we have certain responsibilities. One of those is to help the people in our groups to take “growth risks.” What does this mean exactly? Well, sometimes we might need to give someone a little push. Challenge the members of your Grow Group to serve. Challenge someone who has never told the story to tell it next week during group. Encourage them to pray about what leadership positions God may be calling them to step into. Don’t forget that we have an excellent resource in the PLACE Assessment. Encourage those who aren’t sure where God might be leading them to serve, to make the PLACE Assessment their first step.

Developing [grow as a disciple yourself] Read 2 Corinthians 8:9 - “For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though He was rich, yet for your sake He became poor, so that you through His poverty might become rich.” One of our Core Values is: our giving is a fearless sacrifice. Ponder this week, how does sacrificial giving help us become more like Christ? Is your giving sacrificial?
