SENT: Week 23 – But God Raised Him Open in Prayer W elcom e/Introductions/Cast Vision Rem ind the Grow Group of the ground rules Share background for the story [Provide context by sharing what comes before the story.]

Paul's first missionary journey started with the call of the Holy Spirit, who instructed the prophets and teachers at the church in Antioch of Syria, to set apart Barnabas and Paul for the work He had called them to do. Upon their arrival in Pisidian Antioch, Paul was invited to speak in the synagogue. Paul preached Jesus by first reviewing the history of Israel, from the Exodus to the time of David. He then proclaimed forgiveness of sin through Jesus. Tell the story – this week’s passage is Acts 13:26-39 [Have someone tell the story.] Rebuild the story [Group members tell the story together based on what they remember.] Read the story out loud [Read the scripture passage to see if anything was added or omitted.] Discuss these questions:

1. What do we learn about God from this passage? [God has power over death; God is a deliverer; nothing is impossible with God (v 30); God always fulfills His promises; God’s love toward us is extravagant; God offers forgiveness to all who seek Him; Jesus came to deliver us from spiritual captivity; God wants us to share the gospel with others; the Holy Spirit gives us the courage and boldness to share our faith with others; God uses us as His instruments for His glory; etc.]

2. What do we learn about Man/Us from this passage? [I will one day breath my last breath; I can find myself at times bound by sinful behavior; I need God to restore unto me the joy of my salvation; I exchange the truth of God for a lie; I suffer from spiritual amnesia and forget about His faithfulness; I have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God; I cannot save myself by performing good deeds; etc.]

3. What is God saying to you specifically through this passage as it pertains to your life, marriage, family, and work? 4. What is God leading you to do? Other Q uestions specific to this passage:

1. Before you came to know Jesus, did you try to earn salvation through good works? What specific actions did you perform? 2. With whom is God leading you to have a gospel-centered conversation? Assign next week’s passage – Acts 15:1-32 [Ask someone to tell the story next week.] Close in Prayer

Sent: Week 23 – Leadership Coaching The purpose of this page is to help you sharpen your skills as a Grow Group Leader. Each week, we will include concepts, challenges, and resources designed to assist you as you lead and shepherd your Grow Group and grow as a disciple yourself.

Leading [learn to facilitate your group more effectively] There will be times when someone in your Grow Group goes through a crisis. It is important to know how to respond to people experiencing a tragedy in a way that keeps the group intact and brings resources to the person whose life is unraveling. Here are a few tips: Before the next Grow Group (during the initial hours/days of the crisis): – Sit and grieve with the person – Make any hospital visits as needed – Assign other members with days of the week to call or visit – Attempt to meet any additional immediate needs that surface At your next Grow Group: – Pray with/for the person – Clarify the specific needs of the person and determine which ones can be met – Discuss what changes the group needs to make in response to this new reality

Shepherding [know the sheep, feed the sheep, lead the sheep, protect the sheep] If a member of your Grow Group is going through a difficult time, visit with them this week outside of group time. Be present and listen well. When someone in your Grow Group needs help on an ongoing basis, that is a perfect opportunity to ask some other Grow Group members to step in and “practice” relationship, discipleship, and ministry. Encourage the less spiritually mature in your group to be a part of the process by helping them identify ways they can support the person who is struggling. Perhaps it is by writing a personal note, providing a meal, or driving them to a doctor’s appointment.

Developing [grow as a disciple yourself] Look at these verses dealing with a crisis. Think about how these verses help you understand the role of relationship in helping someone deal with a crisis. o Romans 15:1 o Galatians 6:2 o 1 Thessalonians 5:11
