Aldersgate Street – installation of water mains monitoring equipment Costain Skanska Joint Venture has been appointed by Crossrail to install specialist equipment to monitor water mains, in advance of the creation of the Crossrail running tunnels. Monitoring equipment will be installed in three locations on Aldersgate Street and in one location on Beech Street, as shown on the next page. Aldersgate Street - two near to the junction of Aldersgate Street with Beech Street and Long Lane (on both sides of the junction) and one between the junctions of Aldersgate Street with Carthusian Street and Glasshouse Yard.

Duration of work 

From 27 Aug 2013 to 13 Sept 2013

Weekday working hours 08:00 to 18:00

One hour start up and shut down periods are also permitted

What to expect 

Traffic management during the work

Beech Street - near to the junction with Aldersgate Street.

The use of mechanical excavating equipment

We will need to narrow the carriageways, however one lane will always remain open to traffic and will be controlled by traffic signs.

Fencing around the site

We will excavate part of the road to the level of the water mains, fit the monitoring equipment and install an access chamber. The road surface will be reinstated after the works. Work will start on 27 August and will be completed by 13 September 2013. Please note these works should not cause any disruption to your water supply.

What we will do 

Keep noise and dust levels as low as possible

Monitor noise and keep within permitted levels set by City of London

Place acoustic barriers around the site
