“Lordship” What Does It Mean? Pastor Rick Sutherland Woodland Church Sunday, July 29, 2018

He told many stories in the form of parables, such as this one: “Listen! A farmer went out to plant some seeds. As he scattered them across his field, some seeds fell on a footpath, and the birds came and ate them. Other seeds fell on shallow soil with underlying rock. The seeds sprouted quickly because the soil was shallow. But the plants soon wilted under the hot sun, and since they didn’t have deep roots, they died. Other seeds fell among thorns that grew up and choked out the tender plants. Still other seeds fell on fertile soil, and they produced a crop that was thirty, sixty, and even a hundred times as much as had been planted!” (Matthew 13:3-8, NLT) Key verse 3:9 Whoever has ears, let them hear.

“And the seeds that fell on the good soil represent honest, good-hearted people who hear God’s word, cling to it, and patiently produce a huge harvest.” (Luke 8:15, NLT) The question is what makes a heart good?

I.

A humble heart

1. A soft heart “And I will give you a new heart, and I will put a new spirit in you. I will take out your stony, stubborn heart and give you a tender, responsive heart.” (Ezekiel 36:26, NLT)

2. A contrite heart

“The high and lofty one who lives in eternity, the Holy One, says this: “I live in the high and holy place with those whose spirits are contrite and humble. I restore the crushed spirit of the humble and revive the courage of those with repentant hearts.” (Isaiah 57:15, NLT)

3. A teachable heart

LORD, you know the hopes of the helpless. Surely you will hear their cries and comfort them. (Psalms 10:17, NLT)

II.

A holy heart

1. Holy means- Set apart

“You must be holy because I, the LORD, am holy. I have set you apart from all other people to be my very own.” (Leviticus 20:26, NLT)

2. Set apart in our conduct

3. Guard your heart

“Guard your heart above all else, for it determines the course of your life.” (Proverbs 4:23, NLT)

III.

A heavenly heart

“So we don’t look at the troubles we can see now; rather, we fix our gaze on things that cannot be seen. For the things we see now will soon be gone, but the things we cannot see will last forever.” (2 Corinthians 4:18, NLT)

1. Fix your eyes on external things

2. Set you mind’s on things above

“Think about the things of heaven, not the things of earth. (Colossians 3:2, NLT) 3. The word will accomplish it purpose in your heart “The rain and snow come down from the heavens and stay on the ground to water the earth. They cause the grain to grow, producing seed for the farmer and bread for the hungry. 11 It is the same with my word. I send it out, and it always produces fruit. It will accomplish all I want it to, and it will prosper everywhere I send it.” (Isaiah 55:10-11, NLT)
