Case Studies: Fix vs. Find

Highrock Guides Leaders Meeting April 13, 2011

Group Lectio Divina • Passage: Luke 10:38-42 •First Reading: Observation •Second Reading: Listening •Third Reading: Transformation

What is our Specialty?

We don’t lead with FIXING… but with FINDING GOD!

“There is someone at Highrock who I haven’t talked to in months. I mean, we don’t treat each other badly and we don’t talk about one another. But we just can’t get along anymore. I think it’s just better to live our separate lives.”

Case Studies: Fix vs. Find “One sin that I’m not proud of is occasionally dabbling in pornography. I’m not addicted or anything, but I also can’t stop looking at it at least weekly. I feel terrible about it, like a hypocrite. But maybe it’s something I just need to live with for now.”

Case Studies: Fix vs. Find “What I want to talk to you about is how to discern God’s will. I am so bored with my job and really think it’s time for a change. My question is, what has God really designed me to do? What job does he want me to do next? Any suggestions for how to think about that?”

“Finding God” Questions

Better Feedback for Guides

What do you think God has to do with all of this? What do you think God is doing in this situation? Where do you sense God’s presence in this? What do you think God is trying to teach you through this? How do you think God is loving you / wants to love you in this? How do you think your relationship with God could deepen as you are going through this? How can you praise God / demonstrate your trust in God as you go through this? If Jesus were here now, what do you think he’d say to you? What do you think God wants you to know or remember most right now? Can you think of a Scripture passage that applies here / could encourage you here? What might God be inviting you to do here (next step)?

• Required Debriefing After Every Meeting – Please spend 5-10 minutes debriefing with your partner after your meeting. It’s best to do this in person, but also can be done via email. – Key questions: What went well? What approaches might have worked better? How did we do with finding vs. fixing? – New questionnaires reflect this. Reminder that these are available on the resource web site or on Myca’s desk basket.

• Include link to feedback survey in your followup e-mails (coming soon) • More opportunities for practice & feedback at our monthly meetings
