April 2017

Happy Resurrection Sunday! Rather than Happy Easter … is a much better way to focus on the real celebration, the real reason the music is brighter and louder, the reason we have so much joy to celebrate.

Over the season of Lent, our congregation has been focusing on the Resurrection of Jesus. People from the congregation and some of my colleagues around the denomination have been sharing their faith with us on how the Resurrection makes a difference in their lives. This season of Lent was meant to be one of those times in the life of a disciple of Christ to take extra time to be more introspective, to hunker in on the understanding of the incredible sacrifice God made for us in Jesus’ crucifixion. When Jesus was raised from the dead on that first Resurrection Sunday, the fate of the entire creation was revealed. Life is God’s answer to death. Grace is God’s answer to sin. Forgiveness is God’s answer to our past. That is something more than worth pondering, it is worth celebrating… forever. Join us in April as we approach the tomb and discover…. It wasn’t empty after all. Resurrection Sunday is April 16 . See you at the Tomb of Christ. th

Peace in our journeys, Pastor Steve Melde

1st Saturday Night Worship at CPC “I Am the Resurrection and the Life” During this season of Lent, as we prepare to celebrate the resurrection of our Lord, Jesus, Pastor Melde has been asking us over and over, “What does the Resurrection mean to me?” It has been our theme through Lent and the message each Sunday has been and will continue to be based on that theme with different people sharing what the resurrection means for them in their lives. In the lectionary for the Fifth Sunday in Lent which is April 2 , the Gospel reading is John 11:1-45. It is the story of Jesus raising Lazarus from the dead. In this passage, Jesus said to Martha, the sister of Lazarus, "I am the resurrection and the life. Those who believe in me, even though they die, will live.” For most of us, that is the meaning of the resurrection, the hope of eternal life in the presence of Almighty God once our time on this earth is completed. But is there more? nd

The First Saturday of the Month Meditation Service will be on April 1st, (no fooling) and we will focus on the story of Jesus raising Lazarus from the dead. We will read the passage, spend some time in quiet meditation seeking God to speak to us through the Holy Spirit, and then share what we believe God is saying through this amazing story of life, death and resurrection. Join us on April 1 at 5:30 pm in the Upper Room at CPC (also called the Library) as we praise God through music, scripture reading, prayer and meditation and celebrate the Lord’s Supper.

My neighbor was working in his yard when he was startled by a latemodel car that came crashing through his hedge and ended up in his front lawn. He rushed to help an elderly lady driver out of the car and sat her down on a lawn chair. He said with excitement, “You appear quite elderly to be driving.” “Well, yes I am,” she replied proudly. “I’ll be 97 next month, and I am now old enough, that I don’t even need a driver’s license anymore.” He asked, How do you know?” “The last time I went to my doctor, he examined me and asked if I had a driver’s license. I told him, yes, and handed it to him.” He took scissors out of the drawer, cut the license into pieces, and threw them in the waste basket, saying, “You won’t need this anymore.” So I thanked him and left.
