Psalm 1 – What are some differences between someone who delights in God’s Word and someone who doesn’t? Matthew 5:17-20 – What is the real source of fulfillment of the law of God? 1 Peter 1:18-25 – How does doing what the Word says help you show more love to those in your oikos?

Can I Trust the Bible?

Message by Pastor Tom Mercer Part 2 of 9 :: May 7-8, 2011

I BELIEVE THAT THE BIBLE IS UNIQUELY ACCURATE AND AUTHORITATIVE.

Get Ready for Next Weekend: John 1:1-4 & Genesis 1:1-31 Preparation for Group: 1. What axioms (something that society presumes is true) are generally accepted in our culture? 2. Where does your confidence in the truth of the Bible come from? Your parent’s beliefs? Your own studies? A trusted scholarly resource? Blind faith? Evident truth? Other? 3. When discerning the truth about something, how often do you first consider going straight to the original source, rather than to someone else’s interpretation? Suggested from Pastor Tom: So if someone asks you, “Did God write the Bible or did man write the Bible?” what are you going to say?

We believe that the Bible is God’s infallible Word, written by individuals who were divinely and uniquely inspired, and that it is our final authority in all matters of faith and practice. We affirm our belief in the verbal (to the very words) and plenary (to every word) inspiration of the Scriptures in their original autographs. – HDC’s Statement of Faith
