How the Banty Roaster Works The curved shape of Banty Roaster’s silver styrene mirror reflects the Sun’s light energy and directs it toward the cooking tube. Banty Roaster works best on bright, sunny days. Cooking time ranges from five to seven minutes depending on the outside temperature and the brightness of the sunlight. 2

Assembling the Base 1. Peel the paper backing from all plastic parts. 2. Assemble the braces – Locate the braces, threaded mounting brackets, four of the 6-32 x 3/8” PHP screws, and four 6-32 hex nuts. Attach the round ends of a bracket to each end of the braces with the screws (Figure 1). Secure each with a hex nut, loosely tightened. 3. Attach the braces to the legs – Locate the legs, the remaining 6-32 x 3/8” PHP screws, and the assembled braces. Note that the notches on the ends of the braces are of two different widths. The widths correspond to the size of the slits in the legs. 4. Slide the braces into their corresponding slots and secure with a screw, loosely tightened (Figure 2). 5. Tighten all screws and nuts, making

sure the braces fit snugly in their slots.

Construct the Mirror Frame 1. Begin heating the glue gun. 2. Locate the cradles, end caps, and silver styrene mirror. 3. Peel the protective plastic off the styrene mirror. 4. Place the cradles together. Note the slight variance in the shape of the U-curve in the center of each cradle. Make sure these curves are oriented the same direction when putting the frame together. 5. Slip the edges of the styrene sheet, mirror side up, into the slots along the sides of the cradles (Figure 3). 6. Slip end caps onto the tabs at the top and bottom of the cradles (Figure 4). 7. Slide the mirror material through the slots in the end caps (Figure 5).

8. Carefully turn the mirror Glue Glue assembly over so that the shiny side is facing down. Make sure that the mirror material is still fitting through all the slots. Apply glue along the seams at Glue all four corners and at the Figure 6 – Glue the mirror to the frame. centers of all four sides (Figure 6). 9. When the glue is dry, turn the mirror assembly over so the mirror side is up. Slip the solar angle gauges into the slots at the side of the cradle (Figure 7). The gauge with the larger hole should be on top. Glue in place with cool-melt glue. 10. Unplug the glue gun.

Attach the Mirror to the Base 1. Locate the nylon washers, nylon spacers, 6-32 x 1" PHP screws, and nylock nuts. 2. Slide a nylon washer onto the screw. Slide this assembly through the hole at the top of the base. Slide a nylon spacer onto the screw and then slide the assembly through the center hole in the mirror assembly. Slide a nylon washer onto the screw and secure with a nylock nut (Figure 8). Use needle-nose pliers to hold the nylock nut while tightening the screw, but take care not to overtighten. The mirror should move easily yet stay in various tilted positions. 3. Repeat for the other side. Banty Roaster User Guide 59755 V0210

Attach the Tube Holders Locate the tube holders and the 4-40 x 3/8" PHP screws and the 4-40 nuts. As shown in Figure 9, center a tube holder on the outside surface of each cradle, aligning each with the predrilled holes. Note: The U-shape should face upward and tilt ever so slightly toward the top of the unit. Attach with screws and secure with the nuts (Figure 9).

Prepare the Cooking Tube Locate the metal cooking tube and the foam grip. Using scissors, cut two 1-1/2"-long pieces from the open end of the foam grip. Slide one onto each end of the cooking tube (Figure 10). Set the cooking tube in the tube holder slots. The Banty Roaster is now assembled.

What to Cook Banty Roaster is designed to cook one cocktail sausage wrapped in foil. Although more than one will fit in the tube, we do not recommend that you try this as steam buildup will cause the additional sausages to be expelled.

Items Needed (not included) • Cocktail sausages • Aluminum foil

• Wooden dowel, 3/8" or 1/2" diameter • Oven mitts

Cooking Instructions* 1. Roll a cocktail sausage in a 3” x 3” piece of foil and twist the ends closed. 2. Slide the foil-wrapped sausage into the cooking tube. Use the wooden dowel to push the sausage to the center of the tube. Place the cooking tube on the tube holders and take the Banty Roaster outside. 3. Position the Roaster so it faces the Sun. Adjust the angle of the Roaster so the sunlight shines through the big hole in the forward solar angle gauge and is projected onto the smaller hole in the rear gauge. This ensures the cooker is positioned to optimize the Sun’s heat energy. As the Sun moves, the angle may need to be adjusted. Caution: The cooking tube will become very hot during the cooking process. Do not touch it with bare hands. 4. After five to seven minutes, put on the oven mitts and remove the sausage by pushing it out of the tube with the wooden dowel. Unwrap and enjoy! * Always use safe food-preparation and food-handling practices.
