Session 5 - Pride

The  Great  Sin There  is  one  vice  of  which  no  man  in  the  world  is   free;  which  everyone  loathes  when  he  sees  it  in   someone  else;  and  of  which  hardly  any  people,   except  Christians,  ever  imagine  that  they  are   guilty  themselves.  I  have  heard  people  admit   that  they  are  bad-‐tempered,  or  that  they  cannot   keep  their  heads  about  girls  or  drink,  or  even   that  they  are  cowards.  I  do  not  think  I  have  ever   heard  anyone  who  was  not  a  Christian  accuse   himself  of  this  vice.  -‐  C.S.  Lewis

Jesus  on  Pride Luke 18:9-12 - And He also told this parable to some people who trusted in themselves that they were righteous, and viewed others with contempt: “Two men went up into the temple to pray, one a Pharisee and the other a tax collector. “The Pharisee stood and was praying this to himself: ‘God, I thank You that I am not like other people: swindlers, unjust, adulterers, or even like this tax collector. ‘I fast twice a week; I pay tithes of all that I get.’

God  I  Thank  You…

Jesus  on  Pride Luke  18:13  -‐  “But  the  tax  collector,   standing  some  distance  away,  was   even  unwilling  to  lift  up  his  eyes  to   heaven,  but  was  beating  his  breast,   saying,  ‘God,  be  merciful  to  me,  the   sinner!’

Jesus  on  Pride Luke  18:14  -‐  “I  tell  you,  this  man   went  to  his  house  justified  rather   than  the  other;  for  everyone  who   exalts  himself  will  be  humbled,  but   he  who  humbles  himself  will  be   exalted.”

Pride  Pitfall  #5  -‐  False  Humility Pride  is  not  thinking  less  of  yourself,     but  thinking  of  yourself  at  all.
