COACHES CORNER Although we have been playing well at times, we need to play one complete match. For the last several matches, we have not been able to play a whole complete match. We play opponents to a score of 25-23, 25-21 and even have leads late such as 20-17 but just cannot put a complete match together as often the other sets in which we play are not as close . Recent exAmples include a 25-23 first set loss to the top team in our conference then lose the next 2 sets by the scores of 25- 15, 25-13. Our main goal tonight is to play a complete intense focused match from start to finish not matter what the score. Going into most matches undersized, we have to be digging well and serve receiving well to compete with most AAC teams. Tonight we take a break from the AAC for just one match and look forward to another chance to play a complete match against a NCAA 2 team in Bluefield State.

this season In Bluefield’s previous match, the Lady Rams suffered a 0-3 loss at top-ranked AAC member, Montreat College With the consistent hitting of Montreat, the Lady Rams struggled to find any long rhythm on Saturday afternoon. The meeting with Montreat was the 2nd and final matchup between the two teams. Bluefield lost the first two sets by identical scores of 25-12, 25-12. The third set was much closer, as the Lady Rams narrowly lost 25-21. Megan Randall led the Lady Rams in kills with 10, while having 36 total attempts. Chesnee Daily led the women on the defensive end with 14 digs, with Duarte close behind with 9. Bluefield begins in a stretch of three games, two of which are in-conference, where Bluefield has dominated the opponents in recent seasons. (Bluefield State, Tennessee Wesleyan and Virginia Intermont) Nationally, Yeda Duarte ranks number 16 in Division I in Digs per Game (5.540). In the NAIA, Bluefield College ranks number 23 in Division I in Digs per Game (17.680) nationally.

about the matchup Tonight’s cross-town/state rivarly between Bluefield College and Bluefield State College is always an entertaining contest among many of the programs’ sports. Specifically in volleyball, Bluefield College has dominated Bluefield State by winning its 6 previous meetings dating back to 2005. In 2010, Bluefield beat Bluefield State both meetings 3-0 and 3-1 respectively. Bluefield’s overall record was 8-24 overall, as BSC’s was 1-27. Bluefield State is coming into tonight’s contest after a recent 3-0 defeat 3-0 (25-9, 25-16, 25-11) by University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown on Saturday.
