Celebrating 25 Years in business!
Hearing Care for Life
586-725-5380 How is your hearing? Is it hard to understand the people around you, especially in a group setting? Do you have difficulty hearing the TV or radio? If you answered yes to any of these questions, you are not alone. Hearing Consultants of Southeast Michigan is here to get you the help you need. Kari Krause, audiologist and owner, will be celebrating her 25th year in private practice this October. She has been helping people with their hearing health care in Chesterfield, New Baltimore and the surrounding communities since graduating with her Master’s Degree in Audiology from CMU.
“I went into private practice because I did not feel I was able to give the attention patients needed and deserved in a busy medical setting,” Kari stated. “We are not just about selling hearing aids. We are here to help patients with all their hearing needs and to provide them a better quality of life.” Patients are given a hearing test and evaluated by one of their state licensed audiologist with either a masters or a doctorate degree. If there is hearing loss, patients are then fitted with hearing aids designed specifically for their hearing loss, their lifestyle and of course their budget. “Our audiologists’ work with the most current hearing aid technology available,” Kari
states. “Today’s hearing aids are quite discreet and have impro oved immensely in recent years. s. Many can connect to Bluetooth®-enable devices such as smartphones and TV’s, as well as rechargeable models.” models. Most importantly, Hearing Consult Consultants of Southeast MI wants you to know that hearing contributes to personal safety, emotional per well-being and independence. Studies have linked the effects of untreated hearing loss to other health problems such as overall cognitive decline, an increased risk to dementia, and poorer balance and physical function. That’s why they are offering FREE HEARING SCREENING so please call to schedule your appointment @ 586-725-5380. They are located at 30080 23 Mile Road in Chesterfield. Office hours are Monday, Tuesday and Thursday 9am – 5pm.

NEW BALTIMORE
After 55 years, Bay-Rama Fishfly Festival shows no signs of slowing down By Jane Peterson For MediaNews Group
The Bay-Rama Fishfly Festival may be turning 55 this year, but it’s still running strong. In honor of this milestone, the theme for the 2019 festivities is “55 Smiles Per Hour” complete with highway sign décor and a new event, the Power Wheels Demolition Derby. This year’s festival is scheduled for June 19-23. Held in New Baltimore, it is a fun-filled five days that includes a carnival midway and traditional events like a cornhole tournament; tent entertainment; contests,
like bubble gum blowing, hoola hoop and pie eating; visits by Roscoe the Clown, McGruff the crime dog and the New Baltimore Fire Department with its fire truck; fireworks; and more. “We try to keep everything as affordable as possible,” said Lisa Edwards, president of Bay-Rama, Inc. “We also feature great local entertainment.” The festival kicks off with the Miss Bay-Rama Queen’s Pageant at 6:30 p.m. on June 19. Miss BayRama and her court will be crowned in the Festival Tent. The Queen and her court serve as ambassadors
for Bay-Rama and the Anchor Bay area throughout the year, making appearances at many community parades throughout summer, at the City of New Baltimore Awards Dinner and other events. The 2nd Annual Little Miss Bay-Rama Pageant will also be held at the same time. This pageant is open to girls ages 5-8 who live in the Anchor Bay School District. Those who love to run will want to be sure to enter the 2019 Anchor Bay Rotary Fun Run set for 8:30 a.m. June 22. Starting and end-

ner and the Titanic, which is the first boat to sink. The Bay-Rama Fishfly Festival is one of the many community events hosted by Bay-Rama, Inc., an organization dedicated to enhancing the quality of life in New Baltimore. Festival proceeds are used for community projects within the city, such as $100,000 for a playscape in Festival Park last year, said Edwards. In total, the organization has donated $2.1 million back to the community in the form of scholarships and community projects, she said. Bay-Rama, Inc. also hosts the popular Annual New Baltimore Christmas Tree Lighting ceremony and cocoa with Santa. In order to keep the Bay-Rama Fishfly Festival growing and adding new and exciting events, the committee has expanded to include more members, including several young people, said Edwards. Thanks to their fresh ideas, activities such as the Best Buy’s Snapchat Scavenger Hunt are now an integral part of the festival. The Snapchat Scavenger Hunt, a free event open to all ages with adult supervision for children ages 12 and under required, involves following Snapchat clues throughout the midway and park area to unlock prizes. “Bring your family for some family fun,” said Edwards. “We have something for all ages.” For more information about the Bay-Rama Fishfly Festival, including a complete schedule of events, visit www.bay-rama.com.

NEW BALTIMORE
Power Wheels Demolition Derby to include plenty of action for the 10 and under crowd By Jane Peterson For MediaNews Group
To mark its 55-year milestone and coordinate with the theme “55 Smiles Per Hour,” Bay-Rama Fishfly Festival organizers are pleased to introduce the Power Wheels Demolition Derby this year. Scheduled for Saturday, June 22 during Kids Day festivities, the event will begin with a Power Wheels Parade at 3 p.m. followed by the derby at 3:30 p.m. “Every year we try something new,” said Lisa Edwards, president of Bay-Rama, Inc., the organization behind the Bay-Rama Fishfly Festival. Instead of a traditional “smash-em up” derby, the goal of this kid-friendly version is to
pop each competitor’s balloon that will be attached to the vehicle. The action will take place at the corner of Main and Maria streets in New Baltimore. There will be two groups participating in separate heats: Ages 3-5 and 6-10. There is a $5 entry fee and all registration forms are available at www.bayrama.com. All children will receive a participation prize. The grand prize is a new 2019 Jeep Power Wheel donated by Carl’s Custom Concepts. Families must provide their own electric standard size Power Wheels vehicle. Any style is allowed with the exception of ATV, quad and motorcycle versions. The child must fit inside the vehicle with their legs in the com-

partment. No modifications are allowed and all vehicles will be inspected for safety. Cosmetic changes are permitted, but no reinforcements are allowed to the vehicle. Duct tape may be used to cover the tires in order to protect against breakage. Children are required to wear a bicycle helmet. For a complete list of rules and requirements, visit www. bay-rama.com. Edwards is looking forward to seeing all the different Power Wheels that show up and watching the excitement on the children’s faces during this firsttime ever event.
