RB JOHN L. WILLIAMS: 1982-85

17 EAST CAROLINA

It’s been 31 years since the Gators and Pirates last met in the Swamp, with Florida coming away with the seven-point win. With the game tied 17-17 midway through the fourth quarter, Neal Anderson scored on a six-yard run to give the Gators the edge they would need. Florida’s defense held strong over the final six minutes keeping the Pirates at bay. Anderson (118) and John L. Williams (119) each ran for more than 100 yards — the fourth time in program history two players finished with more than 100 rushing yards. The Gators finished the season at 9-2-1 with a victory in the Gator Bowl over Iowa and No. 6 ranking East Carolina went on to finish 8-3, ranked No. 20 in the nation.

BIRMINGHAM BOWL 2014 Birmingham Bowl Started in 2006, the Birmingham Bowl is one of 11 bowl games owned and operated by ESPN Events. But as the only bowl in the country aligned with both the Southeastern Conference and the American Athletic Conference, it’s definitely one of a kind. Since 2006, the bowl has generated an economic impact of more than $97 million for Birmingham. And, through its partnership with the Monday Morning Quarterback Club, it’s donated $225,000 to the Crippled Children’s Foundation. This money has gone to provide vital medical services to children in need. This year, the Birmingham Bowl will kick off at historic Legion Field on Jan. 3, 2015, at noon and will be televised by ESPN.
