BUCS PwC Indoor Rowing 2011 – Regional Event Guidelines This document is intended to provide guidance on the running of your regional indoor rowing event in order to help promote consistency and fairness across the series of events. In 2011 – a series of regional indoor rowing events will be run by University clubs - the points / medals for the BUCS Rowing Indoor Championships will be awarded to the top student performances from the series. BUCS Rowing representatives will work with each host University to put in place an agreed delivery mechanism that will ensure that each event is organised in a safe and consistent manner. The aim of the events is to help encourage participation within the sport. Dates – all regional events will be held within a window from / including November 19th – December 7th 2011. Distance - 2000m Categories - After all regional events have been completed - BUCS points / medals will be awarded on a national basis in four categories: BUCS Men’s Heavyweight competition BUCS Women’s Heavyweight competition BUCS Men’s Lightweight competition (75kg or less) BUCS Women’s Lightweight competition (61.5kg or less) Lightweights – as per the BUCS Rowing regulations http://www.bucs.org.uk/page.asp?section=3477§ionTitle=Rules+and+Regulations Lightweight event weight limit: Men 75kg or less, Women 61.5kg or less. Lightweight competitors must weigh-in between 2 hours and 1 hour before their race. Lightweight competitors who do not make their weight will still be able to race, their time will be listed at the bottom of the race category they entered, but they will not be placed. Their time will however be included in the BUCS Ranking, as a heavyweight time. Machines - All machines should be Concept2 Model D. They should be in good working order, clean and have been serviced to ensure they are fit for purpose. The host institution is responsible for the condition of the machine. Where there is more than one machine in use at any one time they should be positioned adjacent to each other, facing in the same direction and not less than 1.5 machine width apart. Numbers of machines – whilst not wanting to be prescriptive about the number of machines each host should have available for the event – it is expected that there will be additional machines available for competitors to warm up / cool down before and after racing. It is also expected that the number of machines will be proportional to the number of entries so that competitors have a positive racing experience. Settings - The drag factor should be set as below for ALL competitors: Men’s Heavyweight: 138 Women’s Heavyweight 130 Men’s Lightweight 135 Women’s Lightweight 125 Independent adjudication - Each institution holding a regional event must have an independent adjudicator present. This individual must not be connected to any of the clubs competing. BUCS Rowing will work with events organisers to provide adjudicators at all events.

Eligibility - All competitors in the BUCS Indoor Rowing Championships must have their student cards available for inspection on the day of the event. Entry fees – Each event organiser will collect their own entries and set their own entry fees (to a max. of £5 / person). Event organisers may want to include other events / categories within their event. Entry Process – A generic entry form will be available on the BUCS Rowing pages. Competitors will indicate which regional round they want to enter on the form and then email it to the appropriate organiser. It is completely up to the organising institution how many entries they accept. Results Process – A generic results form will be available on the BUCS Rowing pages. The results should be verified by the independent adjudicator and emailed directly to [email protected] within 24 hours of the event. The individual event results will then be posted onto the BUCS Rowing pages and also incorporated into the National ranking. Medals - There will be no BUCS medals in the regional events. Host universities can purchase BUCS regional medals to be awarded at regional events. BUCS will send national medals directly to the students finishing 1st, 2nd and 3rd in the overall rankings following the completion of the final regional event total of 120 points will be on offer as listed below in each of the four categories 1st = 12 points, 2nd = 8 points, 3rd = 6 points, 4th = 4 points Competitors - Competitors may complete as many ergos as they wish during the course of the event. Their best score during that time will be used and submitted to BUCS assuming that the above criteria are satisfied. All competitors must be appropriately dressed for the activity undertaken and should be appropriately prepared.
