CHANDLER CHAMBER OF COMMERCE

T

he New Year began with a great start this month at the Chandler Chamber! With nearly forty elected officials in attendance, our Meet the Elected Officials Breakfast was a huge success and a great opportunity for our Chamber members to meet and network with Arizona’s new elected officials. Dick Castner from the U.S. Chamber of Commerce spoke on the latest happenings in D.C. In January, we also had the privilege to welcome an abundance of new members into the Chandler Chamber family! I would like to personally congratulate; SicFit Chandler, Triplex Training, Redline Athletics, Burst of Butterflies Pottery, Infinity Care Health Specialists, and SoZo Coffeehouse on their Ribbon Cutting. Thank you to all of our current members for your continued support for the Chamber and to our new members, for recognizing the benefits of joining our fantastic community! This month’s Chamber Lunch Club was held at Social Box Neighborhood Eatery in Chandler. Members were able to network and promote their business while enjoying a great lunch in a fun and relaxed atmosphere. We all eat lunch; why not support community businesses at the same time? Join us February 16th at Tony Sacco’s for our next Lunch Club event. We hope to see you there!

M AY O R ’ S L E T T E R

I

will introduce members of the City’s first Teen Leadership Academy during my State of the City Address on February 19. These 22 young people will immerse themselves in all things Chandler for a week in March with the hope being they will become more engaged in the community moving into adulthood. I am excited about the program and helping to build future leaders for our City. Young people who someday soon will influence and best represent Chandler’s business, nonprofit, education and civic sectors. Instilling a sense of pride in one’s city helps build character and produces a solid foundation for future workforces. We all win when young people take part in the development of the community they live in. Special thanks to the Chandler Kiwanis Club for sponsoring this year’s class.

Click to follow Mayor Tibshraeny on Twitter (@jaytibshraeny).

I hope you will join me for the State of the City as we not only announce the Leadership Academy participants, but also some other inspiring stories that make Chandler the dynamic community that it is. Inspiring stories about businesses and neighbors doing great things. We will also take a few moments to celebrate all of the awards Chandler has achieved this past year. And the honors continue as a national website announced in January that we are the 6th best City in the country for people to find jobs. That speaks well to the plan we have in place to deliver a diverse and vibrant base of employers. Overall, things are very good in Chandler. You can learn more February 19. My annual address begins at 6 p.m. in the City Council Chambers located at 88 E. Chicago Street, adjoining City Hall. There will be a light reception immediately following my remarks.

Public Policy

Let Your Voice Be Heard!

January was an exciting month for public policy! This month, the Chandler Chamber had the privledge of hosting the annual Meet the Elected Officials Breakfast. This event was a huge success for our Chandler Community, featuring over 40 newly elected officials and the unveiling of the Chandler Chamber’s “How We Stand” booklet. Members of the Chandler Chamber also had a unique opportunity to network and discuss public policy in Arizona. The 2015 Governor’s Breakfast was another great opportunity for our members to get involved as they were able to meet and hear directly from our Arizona Governor. Upcoming Public Policy Events: Wednesday, February 4th, 2015 - Economic Update Luncheon will feature Kim Moyers from the City of Chandler giving an update on the city and downtown area. She will also be introducing the new Director of Economic Development Micah Miranda. Pete Wentis from CBRE will be delivering the Southeast Valley Industrial & Office Update. Our Public Policy meetings this month will be on the 13th and 27th of February. For more information, please visit: www.chandlerchamber.com or call us at (480) 963-4571.

Saturday, March 14 at 8:00 p.m. - Main Stage “You cannot talk about rock in the 1970s without talking about Grand Funk Railroad!” --David Fricke, Rolling Stone Magazine, April 3, 2003 Known as “The American Band,” Grand Funk Railroad includes original founding members Don Brewer (vocals and drums, writer and singer of the multi-million selling hit, We’re An American Band) and bassist Mel Schacher, “The God Of Thunder.” Joining Don and Mel are true “All Stars.” Singer Max Carl is a rock veteran from 38 Special. Max penned and sang 38’s biggest hit “Second Chance” and was co-founder of California’s legendary Jack Mack and the Heart Attack. Don refers to Max as “the best blueeyed soul singer on the planet.” Lead guitarist Bruce Kulick is best known for his 12 years with KISS and also has credits with Michael Bolton, Meatloaf and Billy Squier. Affectionately called “Dr. Tim,” his credits include stints with Bob Seger and the Silver Bullet Band and English soul man Robert Palmer.

Conjunto Atardecer

Sunday, March 15 at 8:00 p.m. - Main Stage Conjunto Atardecer is a popular Mexican Duranguense music group considered to be “Los Número Uno Del Pasito Duranguense”. Conjunto Atardecer formed in Santa Maria del Oro, Durango, in September 2000. The idea of forming this group stems from the concerns of three young students who were beginning to switch on some of the school festivals were much in demand, as well as private events. Seeing that many people liked the group they were asked increasingly to private events, then they decided to invite two more members, thus reinforcing musically. They began to rehearse, but not yet the name that would identify them in their presentations, it was then that I had the idea of calling Conjunto Atardecer honoring that afternoon when the five came together for the first time.

Shari Rowe

Sunday, March 15 at 6:00 p.m. - Main Stage

Shari Rowe, Lamon Records Nashville recording artist and songwriter, is making a strong debut in the Nashville country scene. 2013 brought top honors in the “country song” category of the Independent Music Awards. Touring and promoting a strong independent release in 2014, Shari Rowe’s fan base grew as she and the band brought their high-energy shows to country music fans from her home state of Arizona all the way to Poland and Germany. Last year also brought a recording contract, co-writing sessions with Nashville songwriters, and NEW MUSIC tracked at OmniSound Studios in the fall! Now, in 2015, fans eagerly anticipate Shari’s first international EP release through Lamon Records Nashville and Sony Music Entertainment this spring, bringing Shari Rowe’s new music to listeners across the globe!
