September 23, 2018 Sunday Donuts – Join us each Sunday for donuts in the CLC from 10:30-11 am. There is a suggested donation of $1/donut, with proceeds going to disaster relief. Come by an information table TODAY where you can get more information session or sign up to attend an information meeting on Tuesday, September 25, 6:30 pm. 1Nation1Day will take 5,000 short-term missionaries to Peru June 21-July 1, 2019 (dates could vary 1-2 days) to minister in schools, medical clinics, water and housing projects and to train church, business and political leaders in strategic conferences. We would love for each one of these teachers to be adopted, cared for and loved for the entire school year. Wednesday Night Dinners – On September 26, meat loaf will be served in the CLC from 5-6:30 pm. Adults, $6. Children 10 and under, $3. No more than $20 per family. No cost or registration. • Bible Study Fellowship (BSF) – Thursdays during the school year, 9 am-12 pm, register at bsfinternational.org. • Apologetics – This class, facilitated by Jim Burkett, deals with the common questions and objections that are raised against Christianity during this 5-week study on Tuesdays, October 16–November 13, 6:30-8:45 pm in Room 2820. Cost is $60 per person, $110 per family, or $30 per student. Tuesday, October 23-November 20, 2018 from 9:30-11 am in Room 2821 led by Cindy Read. • Jeremiah-Daring to Hope in an Unstable World – This study of Jeremiah by Melissa Spoelstra with practical life application resonates with the realities and experiences of today's women and will inspire women to dare to hope, remembering God is rich in mercy and love and has good plans for us. Special Evening with Bishop Nunn – All people are of sacred worth and are invited to be present in the church; however, we consider some practices to be incompatible with Christian teaching and tradition. We invited Bishop Nunn to come to Asbury for a special evening meeting with us Thursday, September 27, at 6:30 pm in the CLC. Please be in prayer for our faith, our conference leaders and our congregation. Local Mission Opportunity - Serve with the Asbury Good Samaritan Women’s Health Clinic. Women volunteers with and without health care experience needed to serve uninsured women in our community at a mobile medical clinic on November 10. Asbury is hosting a Stephen Ministry Introductory Workshop to learn practical ways to care for hurting people and the basics to becoming a Stephen Minister. Voice of the Martyrs Conference – Saturday, October 13, 9 am–4 pm. You will hear amazing stories from men who were imprisoned with ISIS, son of an Iranian martyr, and an author who written eight books, including three bestsellers: Dreams and Visions, Killing Christians, and Standing in the Fire. We are gearing up to launch our 3rd wave of small groups! Communities are a great place to find people to start a small group with and we would love to help you make it happen! Come learn more at our launch meeting Thursday, October 25, 6:30 pm in Room 1502. Harvest Hayday – Asbury is looking for trunk-or-treat participants for our annual Harvest Hayday on October 27! A “trunk or treat” is similar to the traditional trick-or-treating where children in costumes go door-to-door to get candy, but instead will go car-to-car in Asbury’s parking lot, where the cars are decorated in non-scary themes hand out individually wrapped candy or prizes. Home Improvement Ministry Workday – Volunteers help single women and widows of Asbury with minor home repairs and projects. Saturday, October 20. Infertility Care and Share (Resolve) – Join us the first Tuesday of each month at 6:30 pm in Room 1506 to share with others who understand the challenges of building a family. Men's Prayer Breakfast – Get your Wednesday morning off to a great start with a devotional, fellowship, prayer and breakfast. 6:30 am in the Community Life Center (CLC). Cost $3. First-time guests are free. Alzheimer’s Support Group (offered by Alzheimer’s Association) – This support group is for those with dementia and their caregivers, family and friends. Meets second and fourth Thursdays, 1-3 pm, Room 1507. Second Thursdays are for caregivers and persons with dementia; fourth Thursdays are for caregivers only. Caregivers/Family Support Group (offered by Bright Tomorrows) – This support group for families of those with a physical, mental, or emotional difficulty meets at Asbury on second and fourth Thursdays at 7 pm in Room 2820, September-May. This is a curriculumbased program that is both hope-inspiring and Christian faith-affirming. Call 918.744.5761 for more information. Counseling Referrals – Individuals or couples who are seeking referral to a local Christian therapist are encouraged to call 918.392.1199, Ext. 270 anytime, night or day, and leave a message. Calls are returned Monday through Friday. In-church recommendations are also given. Stephen Ministry – There are days when we feel discouraged, alone, maybe even a little frightened. We’ve all been there. The good news is that none of us have to face those difficult times alone. If a Stephen Minister may be the support you need, leave a confidential message at 918.392.1183. Boy Scouts Can Recycling – Got aluminum cans to recycle? Bring them in a tied plastic trash bag to the wire cage up the short driveway on the east side of Asbury's main building for recycling.
