WEEKLY FOCUS: Greece Trip

CONGREGATIONAL CARE

There is an ongoing crisis in this world with refugees flooding from war torn countries into what they hope will be a safer place. One of the places they go is Lesvos, Greece. It is a Greek island very close to the border of Turkey. Right now there are about 10,000 refugees staying on the island in two very small refugee camps. One of these camps is called Kara Tepe and a new “Center for Women and Children” has been opened just outside of this camp. Our team, Taylor Snedeker, Courtney Hoekwater and Dawn Snedeker just returned from working in this center. It’s a safe place where women and children can come to do laundry in washer and dryers, have a cup of tea and let their children play. While they are waiting we had the opportunity to spend time with them, sharing the cup of cold water that Jesus spoke of in Matthew 10:42. We listened to the stories of those who could speak English. We massaged the hands of Muslim women who are tired and discouraged. We brought lots of glass beads and helped them make bracelets and bring a smile to their faces. We played Uno, colored pictures, made puzzles and batted balloons with children who have no toys. It may seem like small things to us because we have so much, but the joy, laughter and big smiles will stay in our hearts forever. We want to thank all of you who prayed for us while we were there. We saw answered prayer from the beginning of our planning days until we arrived back in the U.S. Also, thank you to those who supported us financially, you truly blessed us and many more.
