CARRIER’S AERO™ REDEFINES THE SCIENCE OF AIR HANDLING SYRACUSE, N.Y. – July 25, 2001 – When it comes time to purchase a new central station air handling unit, building owners and managers will no longer be faced with the dilemma of custom versus cost. Carrier’s new Aero™ custom air handling unit redefines the science of air distribution, providing an unprecedented number of features and flexibility, off the shelf – without custom pricing or custom lead times. Aero’s unique casing and design deliver energy efficiency, quiet operation, extremely low air leakage, factory- installed controls, easy installation and simplified maintenance – custom features not normally found in a “standard” air handler. However, with Aero, custom is standard. Smart, Efficient Construction On the outside, Aero’s revolutionary casing is the unit’s most obvious feature. Its clean lines elegantly package the unit’s patented, sealed, double-wall insulation system. The laminated steel panel construction handles high-pressure applications easily – up to nine- inch water gauge – and delivers superb deflection performance. All panels are galvanized, pre-painted steel both inside and out to protect the unit from the formation of unsightly “white rust,” which could also contaminate indoor air quality. Aero’s panels rest against ultra-tight, automotive-type seals. Carrier’s patented “no throughmetal thermal break” feature means no metal-to- metal contact – and no leakage path for air to escape. With sealed pane ls and no exposed insulation fibers, indoor air quality is never compromised. Additionally, Aero’s vibration absorbing fan discharge seal won’t deteriorate or rip. -more-

According to Carrier Product Manager Mark Rabbia, this gives Aero superior thermal performance and prevents the formation of condensation on the exterior of the unit, commonly known as “sweating.” “This means there is no energy is wasted – the energy stays contained in the air stream for optimal efficiency and cost savings,” Rabbia said. “This is the kind of efficiency you would expect only from very high-end, custom air hand lers – but Aero provides it for a fraction of the price of custom units.” The unit’s innovative design and construction also ensures superior acoustics. Aero’s extraquiet operation can enhance the comfort of a building’s occupants and the overall quality of the indoor environment. Installers and service technicians will appreciate Aero. As a key safety feature, there are no exposed sheet metal edges anywhere on Aero’s appliance-quality finish. Moreover, the unit’s unique structural frame carries its own weight, enabling easy and safe removal of panels for servicing. And, with only a simple hand-tool required, assembly couldn’t be easier, resulting in dramatically streamlined, time- and money-saving installations. UV Lights Carrier is the only manufacturer to offer UV-C germicidal lamps as an optional feature on its air handlers. Factory installed in Aero, these lights can remain on all the time. Their continuous high output UV-C energy prevents microbial growth, fungus and mold that adversely affect IAQ and eliminates odors and allergy-causing irritants. High Efficiency Filtration Typically found only on semi-custom air handlers, HEPA filters are an optional feature available on Aero. -more-

Choices can be configured for the pressures and efficiencies that will yield the best performance in a particular application. Fan options include forward curve, backward incline, airfoil and plenum fans for quieter operation and greater installation flexibility. All fan types are available in multiple wheel sizes. Controls & Electrical Options All Aero controls are factory- installed, so there is no special ordering and no long lead times. With Aero, customers can select the level of control that best meets their needs. There are many available options, from factory- mounted sensors to a complete Carrier AirManager™ system. Options include sensors, actuators, starters, disconnects and variable speed drives – allowing the customer to precisely tailor Aero’s operation to their facility. All controls are compatible with the Carrier Comfort Network® (CCN). AHUBuilder™ Software Carrier’s exclusive AHUBuilder™ software program facilitates selection of Aero’s many flexible features. This easy-to- use Windows®-based software helps customers create a configuration that’s customized for their application. Even fan selections are optimized to match their installation requirements. “AHUBuilder is a fast, accurate way to ensure that Aero will meet both performance and budget goals,” Rabbia said. -more-
