First Baptist Church of Colorado Springs    Position Description: Coordinator of Children’s Ministry     Qualifications   Commitment to Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord   Familiarity with the mission of American Baptist Churches USA.    Love for children and the ability to relate to them in a positive and caring way.    Ability to work with and build relationships with parents and other adults.    Background in Children’s Ministry or children’s programming, along with some  undergraduate schooling in early childhood education and/or elementary  education or related experience.   Training or willingness to train in Red Cross Infant/Child CPR and First Aid.    Ability to evaluate the needs of children and initiate programs and activities to  address those needs, while maintaining a safe environment with appropriate  levels of discipline.    Team player who is also a self‐starter with high energy. One who can help build a  ministry from the ground up using strong organizational and communication  skills.    Continuing education.     Summary  The Coordinator of Children’s Ministry shall have a vision for the development of the  total person as it relates to children. This includes an emphasis on the faith, cognitive,  emotional and physical development for each child.  The Coordinator of Children’s  Ministry seeks to intentionally involve children in the life of the church/congregation  and to foster strong interpersonal relationships with family members, other children  and adults.     Accountability  The Coordinator of Children's Ministry reports directly to the Senior Pastor  for supervision and works with the Christian Education Ministry Team as a staff support  and resource person.     Description of Ministry Areas  The Coordinator of Children’s Ministry shall work with the church staff and pastoral  leadership to enhance children’s ministries and the broader ministry of First Baptist  Church in the congregation and wider community.     The Coordinator of Children’s Ministry shall endeavor to accomplish this goal by being  involved and accountable for the following areas of nursery thru upper elementary  ministry:  

 

    

Providing outreach to families with young children through personal contact,  email, telephone calls and mailings.   Acting in an advisory capacity to the Christian Education Team in developing and  overseeing learning experiences in WEE Worship (Preschool 3‐5 years old),  K.I.D.S. Worship (Kindergarten to 3rd grade), C.R.A.M. Team (4th thru 12th Grade)  and Children’s Choir Programs.   Acting in an advisory capacity to the Christian Education Team in developing and  overseeing curriculum resource decisions and special learning experiences in  Sunday school.   Coordinate special programs, including Palm Sunday/Easter, Vacation Bible  School, Children’s Christmas Program, and spring/summer/winter camps and  activities.   Maintain, in an orderly fashion, Sunday school rooms, supplies, and registration  information that pertains to children.   Assist the Christian Education Team with teacher recruitment and training.   Other tasked as assigned by the Senior Pastor and/or Christian Education Team  

  Other Ministry Areas   Being present at monthly Christian Education Team meetings.    Being present for weekly staff meetings.   Being on site one day during the work week.   Planning and leading teacher meetings in conjunction with the Christian  Education Team.     The Children’s Ministry Coordinator is expected to be part of a team relationship with  the ministerial and support staff of First Baptist Church of Colorado Springs. The  Coordinator will attend special staff meetings, staff retreats, and church planning  events. The Coordinator will assist the CE children’s team in program planning and  evaluation.       Position Hours and Financial Package  To be discussed with church during interview phase.               Revised: 8/20/2014
