Crossrail Project Bulletin 9 17 May 2007

This is the ninth bulletin keeping you up-to-date on the progress of the Crossrail project. Updates on the project’s progress can also be found in the ‘Latest Developments’ section on the Crossrail website www.crossrail.co.uk, where the following documents can be found in the Crossrail bill supporting documents section, along with information papers on aspects of the project. Amendment of Provisions – 17 May 2007 The Department for Transport (DfT) has deposited a fourth set of Amendment of Provisions concerning a station at Woolwich. Since the deposit of the Bill in February 2005 a number of changes to the project have been identified as a result of discussions with stakeholders and continued project development, and in response to the Select Committee’s interim decisions. Some of these changes would have the effect of extending the scope of the Bill and such changes to the project can be made by depositing Amendment of Provisions. An Amendment of Provisions (May 2007) Environmental Statement is now available and contains details on: Revised proposals for the construction of works and acquisition of lands in the London Boroughs of Newham and Greenwich for the provision of a station at Woolwich and the realignment of running tunnels and associated works between North Woolwich and Plumstead. A Non-technical summary in non-technical language is also available. As with the Bill, those affected by the proposals in the Amendment of Provisions have the opportunity to petition against them. Parliament has set a four week petitioning period ending on 12 June 2007, in which those affected should submit their petitions to the Private Bill Office in the House of Commons. They can be contacted on 020 7219 3250. Further environmental information published Further information is available in relation to the environmental statement which was deposited with the Bill, comprising details of the assessment of revised arrangements for cofferdams in connection with the construction of a station at Isle of Dogs adjacent to Canary Wharf. A Non-technical summary in non-technical language covering this further environmental information is also available. Select Committee The Crossrail Bill is now being considered by a Select Committee in the House of Commons. The Committee has considered petitions against the Bill as deposited, and the first, second and third Amendment of Provisions. In due course it will consider any petitions deposited against the fourth set. Details of the procedures used for Hybrid Bills can be found at: http://www.parliament.uk/about_commons/prbohoc/hybrid_bills.cfm Consultation Anyone may comment on the Amendment of Provisions Environmental Statement (whether or not they wish to petition Parliament formally) and the further environmental information. Comments should be sent to the Secretary of State c/o Tim Neate, Consultation Manager, Department for Transport, Major Projects Division 3, Zone 2/19, 76 Marsham Street, London SW1P 4DR (e-mail: [email protected]).
