Be prepared for the culture’s pressure to DECONSTRUCT your worldview according to God’s truth and RECONSTRUCT it apart from God’s truth.

DANIEL: Thriving In Babylon Lesson Two • Daniel 1:3-21

Resolved

Thriving in Babylon

3. Your Greatest Triumph: To HONOR God When Living in Babylon! But Daniel purposed in his heart that he would not defile himself with the portion of the king’s delicacies, nor with the wine which he drank; therefore he requested of the chief of the eunuchs that he might not defile himself. Daniel 1:8

God honors those who HONOR Him. Those who honor Me I will honor, but those who despise Me will be disdained. 1Samuel 2:30 NIV

Daniel’s Resolution

It’s not resigned retreat from Babylon or radical revolution against Babylon, but a resolution to not be DEFILED by Babylon. Strategy for Honoring God

Resolved

1. Your Greatest Trial: To TRUST God When Your World Falls Apart! Then the king instructed Ashpenaz, the master of his eunuchs, to bring some of the children of Israel and some of the king’s descendants and some of the nobles, young men in whom there was no blemish, but good-looking, gifted in all wisdom, possessing knowledge and quick to understand, who had ability to serve in the king’s palace, and whom they might teach the language and literature of the Chaldeans. Daniel 1:3-4

Ø   Resolve to RESIST the cultural pressure to conform to Babylon. Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Romans 12:2 NIV

Ø   Resolve to STAY dependent upon God while living in Babylon. But He gives us more grace. That is why Scripture says: “God opposes the proud but shows favor to the humble.” James 4:6 NIV

When Your World Falls Apart

Ø   Daniel and his three friends were EXILED to Babylon.

The Faithfulness of God in Babylon Ø   Daniel and his three friends were ENLISTED in the king’s service.

v   We see God’s faithfulness in Daniel’s SITUATION. v   We see God’s faithfulness in our SALVATION.

2. Your Greatest Temptation: To DENY God When Pressured by Culture! And the king appointed for them a daily provision of the king’s delicacies and of the wine which he drank, and three years of training for them, so that at the end of that time they might serve before the king. Now from among those of the sons of Judah were Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah. To them the chief of the eunuchs gave names: he gave Daniel the name Belteshazzar; to Hananiah, Shadrach; to Mishael, Meshach; and to Azariah, Abed-Nego. Daniel 1:5-7

COMMUNION Remembering God’s Faithfulness at the Cross of Jesus Christ Followers of Jesus Christ (those who trust Christ for salvation and identify with Christ in baptism) are invited to participate in Communion located at the four tables in the auditorium. You may take the bread and cup back to your seat. The bread and juice represent the body and blood of Jesus when He died on the Cross and reminds us who our Lord is, what He has done for us, is doing for us, and will yet do for us when He returns. Come, Lord Jesus, come!
