Medical Department Bloodborne Applications Primary Users: Anatomical Pathology- Diagnosis of disease based on macroscopic, microscopic, biochemical, immunologic and molecular examination of organ and tissues.
Blood Bank- A cache or bank of blood or blood components, gathered as a result of blood donation or collection, stored and preserved for later use in blood transfusion. Could be division of a hospital or a collection center. Blood Collection- Removal of blood, usually by venipuncture Chemistry- Studies the composition, structure, properties and change of all matter. Clinical Laboratory- Where tests are usually done on clinical specimens in order to obtain information about the health of a patient as pertaining to the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of disease.
Clinical Pathology- Doctors with special training who often direct all of the special divisions of a laboratory, which may include the blood bank, clinical chemistry and biology, toxicology, hematology, immunology and serology, and microbiology.
Dialysis- The separation of particles in a liquid on the basis of differences in their ability to pass through a membrane. The clinical purification of blood by dialysis, as s substitute for the normal function of a kidney. Hematology- The study of blood, the blood-forming organs, and blood diseases. Microbiology- The study of microscopic organisms, such as bacteria, viruses, archaea, fungi, and protozoa.
Molecular- The molecular basis of biological activity between the various systems of a cell, including interactions between DNA, RNA, and proteins and their biosynthesis as well as the regulation of these interactions.
Phlebotomy- Drawing blood from patients and taking the blood specimens to the lab to prepare for testing.
Radiology- Uses imaging to diagnose and treat diseases seen within the body. Research Laboratory- A facility that provides controlled conditions in which scientific or technological research, experiments, and measurement may be performed.
Testing Laboratory- Facilities that provide product safety testing and certification services to manufacturers. Provide objective analytical data on the quality of a product or process.
General Dentistry- Primary dental care providers for patients of all ages. Periodontics- Dentistry concerned with the structures surrounding and supporting the teeth. Restorative/Implant Dentistry- Diagnosis and integrated management of diseases of the teeth and their supporting structures.
Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeons- Treating many diseases, injuries, and defects in the head, neck, face, jaws, and hard tissues of the oral (mouth) and maxillofacial (jaws and face) region.
