Introduction In many ways, the American dream is all about getting more—more money, more stuff, more status, and more power. But these worldly things do not truly satisfy in the long run, as they still leave a hunger for lasting fulfillment. Let the questions and Bible readings below guide your discussions as you explore what it means to be filled to the full measure of God’s love.

Discussion Questions 1. Briefly share about a time in your life when you wanted more of something and were consumed with getting it. Share the source of your strong desire and what the pursuit cost you. Were the results fulfilling? 2. Read Paul’s prayer for Christ followers in Ephesians 3:14-21. Note that he speaks of power three times. What is the source of this power and how can you gain access to it? We are all familiar with military, economic, and political power, but have you ever considered or thought about the reality of God’s power as Paul describes? 3. According to Paul, what are three specific results of this power in the lives of Christians? Share an instance when you’ve experienced God’s power in your life. How were you affected?

4. List some of the ways that we as humans may feel weak or inadequate. Do you feel there are any areas of your inner being that are in need of strengthening? Read 2 Corinthians 12:9 and Ephesians 3:16. How does Paul’s personal experience with weakness encourage you? Explain. 5. What are some of the major things that always seem to be demanding your attention in the midst of life’s busyness? Read Ephesians 3:16-17 and Psalm 46:10. Identify and commit to one or two realistic steps you can take this week to create more room in your heart for Jesus. 6. Share whether or not you are currently experiencing the fullness of Christ’s love in your life. If so, describe what it is like. If not, do you want more? What might be acting as a barrier to being filled with God’s love?

Commit to reading Paul’s prayer each day this week, reflecting on how wide and long and high and deep is the unsurpassed love Christ has for you. Then spend time in prayer inviting the Holy Spirit to strengthen you with power and bless you with the fullness of life that comes from a heart completely filled by Christ’s love.
