If you are a responsible youth who desires work opportunities, please contact the church office and share what kind of work you are interested in doing. If you are a congregational member who would like to hire a youth, please contact the church office and we will connect you to one another. Contact the church office at 703.451.5855. . Please Help Provide Personal Care Kits to Nepalese Earthquake Victims! As Lutheran World Relief (LWR) works to help those affected by the devastating earthquake in Nepal, they are greatly in need of Personal Care Kits. These kits help to meet the basic personal needs of the nearly 3 million people who have been displaced by the earthquake and have virtually lost everything. The simple gift of a Personal Care Kit can provide the encouragement for someone to begin anew, starting with a bath. Each kit contains the following: 1. One new light-weight bath-size towel, dark color recommended; 2. Two or three bath-size bars of soap (8-9 oz.) in original wrapping; 3. One adult size toothbrush in original packaging – if using multi-packs, seal each toothbrush in a business-size envelope only; (toothpaste is added to the kits by LWR) 4. One sturdy comb with packaging removed; 5. One metal nail clippers with packaging removed; All items should be new. Please do not add or leave out any items. Toothpaste is added by LWR before the kits are distributed. Wrap all of the items in the towel and tie it securely with ribbons or yarn. If you would rather only provide certain items, we are happy to package the kits at the church. If you would like to help with assembling care kits at a later date, please contact Lori Stillman at [email protected]. Place the completed kits, or individual items, in the marked bin by our display in the narthex by June 1st. Please help us share God’s grace and love with the Nepalese people by providing the simple comfort of a Personal Care Kit.

“Living Healthy, Loving Fully” Are you anxiety aware?

Everyone has feelings of anxiety at some point in their lives, whether it's preparing for a job interview or bringing up a child. It is normal to experience anxiety in everyday situations, however persistent and excessive anxiety can cause more serious mental health problems. Anxiety is one of the most common mental health problems in nearly every country in the world and, while a low level of anxiety can be a useful motivating force, in some cases it can take over your life. If you feel like anxiety is becoming a problem for you, visit http://www.adaa.org/ or scan this QR code with your phone.

NEW: Summer Adult Bible Study ”See Through the Scriptures” 8-Week Class, Led by DCE Stacey Crosson Offered at two times: Wednesdays, June 3-July 22, 9:30-10:30am Sundays, June 7-July 26, 9:45-10:45am

The Bible can be daunting. How does the average person make sense of it all? “See Through the Scriptures” makes the Bible more accessible by taking readers step-by-step through the entire biblical narrative from Genesis to Revelation, putting everything in clear context. Using fullcolor teaching graphics designed to help people grasp and remember the key events and concepts of the Bible, students will gain a new appreciation for everything that preceded Jesus in order to more fully understand the deeper meaning of His ministry and message of love and servanthood.

Pray With Hands Unfolded Church leader John Wesley once said, “Prayer is where the action is.” When Christians see a need in the world, we pray. With hands folded in prayer we lift up to God people in distant lands as well as the needs we see in our local communities. And with hands unfolded, we dedicate ourselves to serving neighbors in need: providing meals for the hungry, tutoring the young, befriending the lonely. We give witness to our faith through our acts of service and the love we extend to “the least of these” (Matthew 25:40). During a colder than normal winter, members of Holy Trinity Church in Reidsville, North Carolina, prayed with hands unfolded to address the needs in their neighborhood. As part of a Thrivent Action Team, church members put their prayer into action by assembling comfort soup mixes into quart bags and distributed the meals to families through their local Red Cross affiliate. When we see a need, let us first pray. And then, let us pray with hands unfolded. Do you know of a specific need in your community? Learn more about Thrivent Action Teams at Thrivent.com/actionteam. Prince of Peace Lutheran Church and School Playground Plans Prince of Peace Lutheran School is excited to share the plans to enhance the Front Playground at the School Entrance. Our Church and School have a wonderful series of outdoor playgrounds, which have been carefully designed and created especially with young children in mind. As educators, we know how important it is for children to spend time outside. The outdoors is full of elements that constantly respond to changes in light, weather and seasons. Curiosity and initiative thrive when children are playing outside, because there are so many surprises for them to discover. Well-provisioned natural outdoor environments encourage children to investigate, explore and experience God’s ever changing world. Our School received a grant of $6000 from the Circuit 9 Mission Endowment Fund to begin Phase I of this project. We have also received the help of a parent and church member, a professional landscape designer, who donated his time and expertise to help design this project. So far, the School Families have raised $1100 towards the additional $2000 needed to begin Phase I this summer. There are several ways in which you can help! If you would like to make a donation towards Phase I, please write a check to Prince of Peace Lutheran School and write playground in the memo. Your prayers are also greatly appreciated throughout this project. The project is scheduled to begin in July and we may need a few volunteers to help, please let me know if you would be available. Thank you for helping to make this a reality to the children that attend our school, our church and live in our community. We are really excited and hope that you are too. Blessings, Cindy Deatherage, Principal 703-451-6177 [email protected]

Faith Stories Sharing your faith story is an integral component in living out your faith. Your individual story makes up the greater story—the story of God’s redeeming his people for himself. Our stories encourage other believers while God also uses them to reach those not yet connected to him.  I was driving down a neighborhood road and saw an elderly lady sitting on the street by her mailbox. I did a U-turn and went back to help her up.  Discussed how the whole Bible (OT and NT) is the Holy Spirit inspired Word of God.  Our MOPS leadership team discussed at our last meeting, the many miracles God provided in our group this year and how that has been a witness to the women in our group, some of whom are not yet believers. You can share your stories by writing them in the “Friendship Folder” at any worship service, or post your story as a comment on the http://popfaithstories.wordpress.com, or by sending an e-mail to [email protected].
