"Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds..." James 1:2 (NIV) “James, a servant of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ, To the twelve tribes scattered among the nations: Greetings.” James 1:1 (NIV)

I. THE TRUTH ABOUT TRIALS "Consider it pure joy ... because you know ..." 1. Trials are UNAVOIDABLE “...whenever you face trials ..." 2. Trials are UNCOMFORTABLE "... whenever you face trials ..." 3. Trials are UNDEFINABLE "... trials of many kinds ..."



4. Trials are UNDERSTANDABLE "You know that under pressure, your faith-life is forced into the open and shows its true colors.” James 1:3 (MES) I must understand that trials … * Deepen FAITH   "You know that the testing of your faith..."

* Develop PATIENCE "... the testing ... develops perseverance..."

* Define CHARACTER “… so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything!"

II. THE TACKLING OF TRIALS 1. PRAY   “If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him.” James 1:5 (NIV) 2. TRUST “But when he asks, he must believe and not doubt, because he who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind.” James 1:6 (NIV) III. THE TRIUMPH OF TRIALS 1. ENJOYMENT "Consider it pure joy whenever you face trials..." James 1:2 (NIV) 2. ENDURANCE “Because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance.” James 1:3 (NIV) 3. ENLARGEMENT "Perseverance must finish its work so that you may be mature and complete ...” James 1:4 (NIV) 4. ENRICHMENT “… not lacking anything.” James 1:4b (NIV) “Blessed is the man who perseveres under trial, because when he has stood the test, he will receive he crown of life that God has promised to those who love Him.” James 1:12 (NIV)
