t’s hard to believe 2015 is already coming to a close. What a stellar year the Chandler Chamber has had! With over 300 events each year, we hope to offer something for every type business, large or small and every member. This year we educated, explored, honored, advocated and expanded! We started 2015 off with Meet the Elected Officials and the debut of our How We Stand booklet depicting legislative agendas and priorities. The US Chamber spoke about priorities in Washington. This is really the Chamber’s kick off to a series of public policy centered meetings the Chamber schedules throughout the year. In March we brought the birds to town (Ostriches that is) for three days of excitement attracting over 100,000 visitors to Chandler’s Tumbleweed Park for the Ostrich Festival. Our Mayor’s Fun Run enjoyed a record 750 students from the Chandler School District and the Parade sparkled in the perfect weather of spring in Arizona. In June we honored business and individual excellence in Chandler at Wild Horse Pass Resort. ImprovMANIA entertained us with quick-witted comedy, J2 Media, once again, produced incredible videos depicting our winners and fun was had by all. In September we hit the links at the beautiful Whirlwind Golf Club. Besides being a world class golf course, the club offered the perfect backdrop to a friendly game of golf, some incredibly creative mulligans and raised funds for our Community Foundation Scholarships. This fall we teamed with Alliance Bank of Arizona for the Education Impact Forum. We took a look at the momentum behind Arizona’s advancement of our education system with keynote speakers Jerry Colangelo, Jaime Casap; Chief Education Evangelist, Google Inc. and Dr. Alan Gomez. Some exceptional information surfaced that day in the hopes that a “meeting of the minds” would produce communication between the sectors and progress made.
The Annual Chandler 100 took place in October and recognized the top 100 companies in Chandler. Intel, once again took the top spot with over 11,500 employees, but Wells Fargo is close on their heels. Stay tuned next year to see the outcome! We featured several of our businesses through the video talents of J2 Media and looked at some up and coming businesses that are sure to take off in the future. We rang in the holidays in November with our Holiday Enchantment - “Taste of Chandler®”. Many of Chandler’s restaurants and caterers showcased their wonderful holiday treats. Our silent/live auctions raised funds for our scholarships and many folks left with their holiday shopping done! Harvey Gibson got our toes tapping and encouraged us to put our best foot forward on the dance floor. Big Two Toyota Scion of Chandler provided the perfect venue with Santa and his reindeer flying high above their beautifully decorated showroom. In December I hope you will attend our Business After Business mixer right here in the new Chamber offices. We are, after all, here for our members and we are so excited to show off our new meeting spaces, workspaces and technology. Adriane Bryant and Bryant Commercial Realty were instrumental in the redesign of the office from flooring to cabinetry to paint color. We would like to thank Teri Ferguson of Title 365, First Credit Union, Unwired Engineering and DBSI for their help on this project. A big “thank you” to our room sponsors, Orbital, ATK, Dignity Health, AZRE Realty, IKEA, and CubeSmart. We hope that our expansion and updates make the Chamber office more of a go-to resource for our members. We at the Chandler Chamber are so very thankful for our incredible members. We cherish your support because without you, none of this is possible. Together, we are truly better. Thank you for a great year and I look forward to what 2016 will bring!

handler was recently named the fourth best city in America for “Wallet Wellness” by Wallet Hub, a national personal finance social website. The rankings used data that provided a correlation between physical, emotional and financial well-being. These metrics include things like income, affordability, debt, health and well-being. Below are a few reasons why I believe we made the list: Chandler holds a AAA bond rating from all three national rating agencies for a number of strong fiscal policies that go back more than two decades. Adhering to those principles helped us maintain those rating through the Great Recession. It is this “Lead by Example” attitude that has created such a strong financial climate throughout the community. Chandler is also very aggressive in terms of job recruitment. Anchored by companies like Intel, Infusionsoft, Bank of America, Wells Fargo, Microchip and others, we have maintained a very sustainable and well-balanced employment market here in the community. Chandler is a well-educated community, with nearly 40 percent of the population having some college education or associate’s degree, creating a tremendous labor pool of talent. Chandler has some of the best school districts in the state as well as a first-class community college in Chandler-Gilbert Community College. Arizona State University and the University of Arizona also have a strong presence in Chandler.
I continue to be a strong advocate for financial, physical and mental wellness through my Health Connect Initiative (chandleraz.gov/connect) launched in 2012. This three-pronged approach to overall wellness includes my passion for exercise and play, combined with reducing health care costs for the uninsured while maintaining good mental stability through a social media campaign. Each spring, I host my Health Connect Expo, drawing dozens of vendors and hundreds of participants. A similar event in the fall, the Mayor’s Day of Play, draws even more people out to explore new horizons in health and playful activity. Chandler’s parks and recreation system is among the best in the country with dozens of parks and other recreational and fitness amenities including the No. 1 ranked USTA tennis facility in the country. We also provide hundreds of programs on health and wellness, as well as entrepreneurism and business development throughout the year. Finally, Chandler has a dynamic and growing medical community anchored by Dignity Health and its affiliates, as well as Banner Health. Other health and medical companies in Chandler include Healthways (Silver Sneakers program), CVS and DaVita. For these and many other reasons, we are more than deserving of this top-five ranking. To learn more about how you can become healthier through personal finance and well-being, visit wallethub.com, and follow me on Twitter @jaytibshraeny. Stay healthy Chandler!
