lemonade stands this Sunday. They are raising funds for ZOE.

Small group studies Visit the library for information on all the small group DVD studies we have at the church.

The Children’s Sunday School classes learned about a way some people serve St. Peter’s with the help of members of God’s Maintenance Crew, also known as the Geezers. The Geezers volunteer their time to take care of the St. Peter’s facilities by helping with maintenance and repairs around the campus. They showed the children how to hammer, “paint” with water, use a screwdriver, and other tasks.

God with unmatched shoes Dear Friends in Christ, I recently came across a description of how much God wants us to know that we are loved. It is the story of the God with unmatched shoes. An artist was commissioned to paint a picture of the Prodigal Son. He went into his work fervently, laboring to produce a picture worthy of telling the story. Finally, the day came when the picture was complete, and he unveiled the finished painting. The scene was set outside the father’s house and showed the open arms of the father and the son as they were just about to meet and embrace. The man who commissioned the work was well pleased and was prepared to pay the painter for his work, when he suddenly Dr. Pat Sparks, Senior Pastor noticed a detail that he had missed. Standing out in the painting above everything else in the scene was the starkly apparent fact that the father was wearing one red shoe and one blue shoe. He was incredulous. How could this be, that the painter could make such an error? He asked the painter, who simply smiled and nodded, assuring the man, “Yes, this is a beautiful representation of the love of God for His children.” “What do you mean?” the man asked, puzzled. “The father in this picture was not interested in being color-coordinated or fashion-conscious when he went out to meet his son,” the artist said. “In fact, he was in such a hurry to show his love to his son, he simply grabbed the nearest two shoes that he could find. He is the God of the Unmatched Shoes.” We are loved. And we are called to tell others how much God loves them too. Let us go out to “connect the world with God’s love.” Grace and Peace,

Pat

Join our bulletin team

W

e need a volunteer to be a part of our great bulletin team. This team prints and folds the bulletins for the traditional, element, and Living Stones services each week. You are welcome to stop by the church office on Wednesdays at 11 a.m. or Thursdays at 9 a.m. to meet the team and see what they do before you commit. Children in the kindergarten through fourth-grade Sunday School classes made toiletry bags for the Ballard house, which provides housing for individuals undergoing treatment at area hospitals and their families. Victoria and Michelle Marquart made the bags out of washcloths. One type included a toothbrush, toothpaste, mouthwash, and dental floss. The second had shampoo, conditioner, body wash, and cotton swabs. The children made enough bags to supply each room at the Ballard House.

On the second Sunday of each month, we offer those who are new to St. Peter’s an opportunity to find out more about our church, about the United Methodist Church, and about membership. There is a chance to visit with the pastors and staff members, ask questions, and find out about ways to connect within the church. Find interesting DVD studies for your small group or class

S

t. Peter’s has a great resource for adult Sunday School classes or small groups that are looking for DVD studies. Preschool Sunday School

Connecting the World With God’s Love

C

alling all parents, grandparents, students, and those who just like to color and play. We are looking for help with our preschool Sunday School classes. Each class has a traveling teacher to share the lessons, so there is no prep work or experience needed; just come and play with the children for an hour. This is a fun way to help make a difference in a child’s life. Please contact Ryan Wilson at [email protected] for more information.

Community gardeners needed

W

e are still looking for help with one of our Church Without Walls projects: garden boxes located on the end of the ball fields. These boxes will be used to plant community gardens that benefit anyone and everyone, with a primary purpose of being a source for healthy produce for patients at Christ Clinic. If you would like to use your gardening skills to help change lives and provide good, fresh food to people in need, contact Nathan at [email protected] or (281) 492-8031.

H

ello friends! Here’s a quick update on some exciting things going on in missions at St. Peter’s: • The church was challenged by the Vacation Bible School kids, and we responded in a big way! We raised more than $4,500 this past Sunday for the people of Nepal and the United Methodist Committee on Relief’s One Great Hour of Sharing initiative. Way to go! This kind of generosity makes me so proud to be the pastor of missions at St. Peter’s. • I am still collecting names of people interested in serving as gardeners in our community garden, which is an exciting partnership with Christ Clinic. If you would like to help with the garden, or would like to help Christ Clinic in some other way, please let me know. • More than 40 of us went to Baton Rouge in June for a U.M. ARMY growth camp to help grow U.M. ARMY in that state. I serve on the national board of U.M. ARMY and was so grateful to our students, parents, volunteers, and Student Ministry staff for their willingness to do camp in a different place. Also, the congregation supported this ministry generously with scholarships, food, and gift card donations. • In August we’ll have a number of different initiatives geared toward helping students in need. Be on the lookout for how to serve young people in Katy and beyond. • Last, but certainly not least, the Compassion Katy Habitat house project is officially a go! Watch for online sign-up to help with our wall-raising on Sept. 19. On that day, we’ll also have a lunch and celebration service. More information on this will be coming in August. It’s a great time in the Mission Ministries of St. Peter’s. Thank you for connecting the world with God’s love! Paz,

Nathan

July Mission Focus. Our focus this month is on the United Methodist Committee on Relief and their One Great Hour of Sharing program. UMCOR is the arm of the United Methodist Church dedicated to alleviating human suffering around the globe. UMCOR’s work includes programs and projects in disaster response, health, sustainable agriculture, food security, relief supplies, and more. One Great Hour of Sharing is how UMCOR pays all of their operating expenses, which allows UMCOR to do the hard work of responding well and faithfully to needs without sacrificing speed. By donating to UMCOR, you can be sure that 100 percent of your money goes to disaster recovery, and, because of One Great Hour of Sharing, it goes where people need it most. You can still contribute by making checks out to St. Peter’s with OGHS in the “for” line.

The 2015 Student Life trip to Durango, Colorado was amazing! Thirty-four students and adults spent a week surrounded by God’s glorious creation of mountains and valleys. The week’s theme was “ Come to the Table” with a focus on John 6:35: “I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never be hungry again. Whoever believes in me will never be thirsty.” We spent time together in worship, Bible study, games, water activities, and a few hikes in the mountains. It was a great week!
