Cooking with Kids, our first summer program for children, teaches them how to prepare snacks and easy meals, put together a cookbook, set a table and plan a menu. See more photos on page 6. Making sure we don’t drop it Dear Friends in Christ, I recently read a story about a little girl who was playing in another part of the house from where her mom was resting. The girl called out, “Mommy, you know that vase in the china cabinet, the one that’s been handed down from generation to generation?” “Yes, dear, I know which one you mean,” the mom said. “What about it?” “Well, Mommy, I’m sorry, but this generation just dropped it!” As tragic as it would be for a generation to drop a family heirloom, it would be much more tragic for a generation to “drop it” spiritually. We are Christians because someone else told us the Good News of Jesus Christ. As long as we are here on the Earth, it is our generation’s responsibility to tell the Good News to others. Dr. Pat Sparks, Senior Pastor We need to make sure that we do not “drop it” when it comes to sharing with others about God’s desire to be in a loving relationship with each and every one of us. I’m so proud of St. Peter’s for all of the ways in which we seek to “connect the world with God’s love.” It is certainly the desire of this church that we do not “drop it” when it comes to sharing the Good News. I look forward to seeing you this Sunday. Grace and Peace,

Pat

The Grace Notes women’s ensemble have enjoyed a busy spring in the community, with musical performances at The Terrace, Sunrise Senior Living, Carriage Inn, Cinco Alzheimer’s Care, The Gathering at St. Peter’s, Oakmont, Katy First Methodist Daybreak program, Heritage Grand, Solana, and Church Without Walls at Heritage Park and Cinco Alzheimer’s Care. The Grace Notes rehearse or perform Tuesday mornings during the school year. The group also sings during traditional worship at St. Peter’s once a month. Come join this wonderful ministry! The Grace Notes welcome singers, instrumentalists, and dancers and look forward to starting another fun year of music in August. It is very important that you let Chris know if your group is not meeting on one of your scheduled dates. This allows him to adjust the air conditioning or heating for that space and frees the room up for another group to use if needed. We currently have a need for additional staff to set up meeting rooms. If you are interested in working evenings and Sundays, please contact Chris at [email protected] and attach a resume of your experience. It was great seeing the pictures of the Youth Choir and their interaction with the senior residents in Destin, Fla. The expressions on the youth’s faces were priceless; it makes me aware of how blessed I am to be a part of St. Peter’s United Methodist Church. The experience and tools the youth

Liberty Opry. Tickets are still available for this trip for senior adults by contacting David Steere at (281) 693-4710. Everyone who is going to the Liberty Opry performance at the Katy VFW Hall on July 5 should meet at Spring Creek Barbeque at noon that day for lunch and to receive their tickets for the performance. The group will then travel to the VFW Hall in private cars for the Opry, which begins at 2 p.m.

Keep your information up to date

Friday the 13th brought a bus breakdown, a thunderstorm and street flooding to the KEYS on their recent trip to Galveston, but that did not keep the group from enjoying a tour of the Lone Star Flight Museum. They also had time to view the Galveston Tree Sculptures and do some shopping on The Strand. For more information on KEYS trips for senior adults, check the KEYS bulletin board in the Lobby.

Beginning in January, a group of teachers from the Early Childhood Development Center met every Monday and Wednesday after school to exercise. They have lovingly become known as the Sweatin’ Sisters of St. Peter’s. It has been a wonderful way to stay healthy and develop deeper friendships outside of the classroom. We are looking forward to starting back up again in the fall.

Youth Choir Music and Mission Trip Youth Choir member Blair Lewis recently shared the choir’s experiences during its summer Music and Mission trip: his past week the Youth Choir traveled to Destin, Fla., for our annual Music and Mission trip. We stayed in two beautiful beach houses there and enjoyed our time together. We played volleyball, swam, boogie boarded, played games and spent some time working on new music. We rode go-karts and dune buggies and of course made the annual trip to Krispie Kreme to get hot donuts. The most rewarding part of the trip was our outreach to two senior residences where we shared our love for the Lord through singing. The people there were so welcoming, and they loved to have us sing to them and talk with them. We would like to thank the congregation of St. Peter’s for supporting us every Sunday morning at the 8:30 service. You don’t complain when the music we sing isn’t perfect or when we get to church a little late and sneak into the choir loft. You are also understanding when we sometimes fall asleep in the front of the church where we are on display. We truly appreciate your support each year when we make our trip. Thank you.
