Culinary artists from Elkhart Lake will compete for top honors at the 7th Annual Top Chef Elkhart Lake on Sunday, March 13 at the Osthoff Resort. The best part is that you get to enjoy their creations by taking part in the Top Chef event. The public is invited to join in a great afternoon with their friends and neighbors to enjoy sampling an elegant tasting menu of gourmet food crafted by the area’s finest chefs. Top Chef is approved and endorsed by WisconsinTravel.com. The fun event features a live cooking competition among chefs from seven noted restaurants in Elkhart Lake. The chefs will prepare their entrees (each chef using a selection of ingredients determined at a drawing) and then present their culinary creations to assembled guests and a panel of judges. The real winners of the event will be the special needs children in and around Sheboygan County. With funds raised through Top Chef Elkhart Lake, the Midwest Council for Children with Disabilities (MCCD), a registered not-for-profit charity and 501 (c)(3) organization, assists local children with therapy, medical treatment, equipment and supplies that are unaffordable and not covered by health insurance. The six prior Top Chef Elkhart Lake events have raised more than $450,000 for MCCD and its goal of helping area children in need. Embraced by the Elkhart Lake community, the event has been a sellout in each of its six years and advanced tickets are moving fast for the 2016 event. This year’s event will be held from 3-7 p.m. in the Grand Libelle Ballroom at the Osthoff, 101 Osthoff Avenue, Elkhart Lake. Chefs competing in the event will hail from Brown Baer, Lake Street Cafe, Lincoln Street Sports Bar & Grill, The Osthoff Resort, Paddock Club and Quit Qui Oc Golf Club. Once again this year, Off the Rail will provide dessert treats. Last year’s winners were Chris Gebert of the Paddock Club earning the People’s Turn to

Top Chef Elkhart Lake features a live and silent auction. Among the wide ranging selection of auction items are dinners at some of the featured restaurants, gourmet cookware, fine wines and chef-prepared dinners put together in the winning bidder’s home kitchen.

For more information, or to place reservations for the event, contact event organizer Lynn Shovan, by phone at 920-2074561 or email [email protected]. Tickets can be purchased at Lake Street Cafe or through the MCCD website— www.mccdcares.com—where additional information is available, tickets are $75. Full tables and sponsorships can also be reserved through the website. The Midwest Council for Children with Disabilities was founded in 1997 by a group of small business owners to provide

financial assistance to children challenged physically, developmentally or cognitively. MCCD provides families of these children the means to pursue medical treatments and therapies that are not covered by health insurance. The organization channels 100% of every dollar raised above costs for the children. MCCD has no employees and no overhead, no director receives financial compensation, nor does any director have children in the program.

Sharing our Journeys By Carol Edler Baumann

Dealing with storage problems The holidays create an opportune time to think about what you might like to “store away” for actual use on some future occasion—OR they may present an alternative opportunity to utilize some furniture, utensils, or clothing, which you had put into storage in the past. No matter how much space you may have allocated for storage purposes, it never seems to be enough! A few years ago we had moved into a ranch style house with a full basement and attic which we had felt would more than suffice to store the few pieces of furniture we were unable to place in our new family room. Wrong!! Thank God for our basement, we thought, but that was before we remembered that the previous year the basement was the only space left for anything more, and was loaded with extra chairs, end tables, and a large hide-a-bed sofa. So, up to the attic we went. I won’t bore you with the details of our household storage problems except to mention a few of the solutions we have embarked on. One partial solution is to organize much better and in more detail in advance. Even if the basement is unfinished, the pieces of furniture which, don’t fit into your actual living quarters may very well be arranged in the basement to look both inviting and “livable.” Another possibility is to avoid the storage problem completely by selling or giving away in advance that furniture which you know you won’t be using in your actual living quarters. And don’t worry about the out of style fashions from years ago. Your kids will love them! But storage problems also arise in the area of clothing, from simply having too much or too many of those things that once formed the central core of your wardrobe, but the passing of years has pushed to the bottom of your fashion choices. Men: take a look at your closet and count how many of your suits or sports jackets you still really wear on a reasonably regular schedule? Or what about all those neckties from the past?

When was the last time you wore any of them? As for women, how many dresses have given place to slacks and slack suits, with appropriate footwear to match? Why not pack them up for a couple of trips to St. Vincent de Paul? If the question occurs to you “But what if I want to wear one of them sometime?” Just count how often you did wear them in the past month. The same exercise may be made with regard to household utensils. How many pots and pans do you regularly use in your normal daily cooking? Or how many could you easily get along without? You would be surprised at the truism that your throw-aways could very well become someone else’s cherished possessions. Or, just to be sure you won’t be giving away something you might really want to use on some special occasion, set aside a few extra utensils for those “just in case” cuisine extras. If you want to be a little more cautious, you might wan to simply store those extra items in your attic or basement until (maybe a year or so later?) you realize you can get along without them. Finally, for those of you who might argue that the “problems” I have set forth are all little ones and easily manageable, but what some people need are really sizable storage spaces (like yards of square feet) to keep such items as boats, second cars, large rugs and the like. What can be done with those space consumers? Hey, take a look along the highways and bi-ways near any sizable city or town and keep your eyes open for those storage sheds, which are increasingly spreading around the countryside. To some minds (mine included!), these are hardly the epitome of rural charm, but they are useful, provide an obvious need, and keep storage costs within a reasonable financial reach. Storage problems? Just try to solve them by innovative thinking. You’ll be surprised at what your mind can come up with.

FFA students attend conference Jessica Mehre and Brianna Jankowski of the Elkhart Lake-Glenbeulah FFA Chapter attended the Wisconsin Association of FFA Half-Time Leadership Conference held at the Holiday Inn & Convention Center in Stevens Point, Wisconsin, Jan. 8-9. Over 500 FFA members, advisors and state FFA officers participated. The Half-Time Leadership Conference provides FFA chapter leaders from around the state the opportunity to set goals and prepare for the second half of their year of service in their local FFA chapters. FFA members attended workshops focused on leadership and personal development, membership and chapter development, and opportunities in FFA. They learned about preparing for FFA events and getting involved in community service. The Half-Time conference is a 30-year tradition for the Wisconsin Association

of FFA to bring top FFA leaders from across the state together to learn more about what they can do in their local FFA chapters. This year’s leadership conference was designed and conducted by the 20152016 Wisconsin State FFA Officers. The theme of the conference was “The Case of the Missing Be…”. “Half-Time is one of the premier leadership conferences in our state and designed by student leaders. It allows FFA chapter leaders to develop their leadership skills, learn more about FFA activities and meet people while having fun,” said Cheryl Zimmerman, State FFA Executive Director. “We are able to provide young people with an excellent experience to develop their leadership skills and get them excited about Agriculture, Agricultural Education and the FFA so they can build their local programs.”

Lillian celebrates her 104th birthday Lillian Goethke had her 104th birthday on Feb. 3. She was born on Feb. 3, 1912, the oldest of four children and they lived on a farm in the Elkhart Lake area. Lillian recalls that her parents loved to dance and she feels that they influenced her and her husband to also love dancing. Her mother was someone who enjoyed sewing. She did some stitching daily and sewed for her entire family. At 8 years old, Lillian wanted to learn how to sew so her mother taught her and she started with doll clothes. At 12 years of age Lillian made her first dress and she’s been sewing ever since. Up until recently, she had a home business of making alterations and

sewing clothes for others. Lillian attended a country school until eighth grade when she moved to Elkhart Lake to live with her grandparents. She graduated from Elkhart Lake High School. After high school, Lillian spent summers in Elkhart Lake sewing for others and she went to Chicago in the winters to cook, sew, and clean for families. She also cooked for the Elkhart Lake schools for their lunch program for 30 years. She has two sons, one of which has passed away and the other one lives in Northern Wisconsin.

CURIOUS ABOUT WHAT YOUR CHILD LEARNS IN SCHOOL? JonathanandChristineBaizley-Hazellwere. Parents Jonathan and Christine decided to see if either one of them could sit in on a kindergarten class with their son, Lucien. When we made it happen, Jonathan liked what he experienced – the smaller class sizes, the personalized attention, and Lucien becoming engaged with the other students, the teacher and the classroom activities. The only exception was sitting in the little chairs. Jonathan also noticed the faculty took the time to learn his son’s strengths and weaknesses and adjusted the curriculum to better fit Lucien’s needs. Jonathan and Christine have been extremely happy with the move to EL-G and Lucien is thriving. Whether your child is interested in reading or robotics, EL-G dedicates itself to making sure each student has every opportunity available to succeed. If you’re curious to see how serious we are about education at EL-G, please contact Principal Debbie Hammann or Jim Brown to schedule a personalized tour including the ability to sit in on a class or two. Chamber honors

Elkhart Lake Chamber honors service, achievement By Mike Mathes

Members of the Elkhart Lake Chamber gathered February 18 to recognize chamber members and other community groups for exemplary service to the community. Chamber President Jaclyn Stuart welcomed guests highlighting some of the achievements of the past year including the celebration of the anniversary of the chamber, the 20th anniversary of downtown night, the hiring of new director Kari Wimmer and the addition of the digital online version of the Depot Dispatch, the chamber’s official newspaper. Wimmer served as the emcee for the presentation of the Fourth Annual Chamber of Commerce Awards, introducing the winners in seven categories. The winners are listed here— Business Start-Up Award - SOEL of ELkhart Lake, owner Ellen Dupuy. SOEL opened in August 2014, and features group fitness and cycling classes. SOEL also offers TRX strength conditioning classes and yoga, through knowledgeable and capable instructors. Outstanding Small Business (fewer than 25 employees) - This year’s winner is Home Review Inspection Services, owned by Bob Turicik. Turicik seeks to provide his customers with a written, comprehensive fair and independent evaluation of their home and property. To date, Turicik has inspected more than 3,550 residential and 150 commercial properties in his 14 years of business. Outstanding Large Business (more than 25 employees) - The 2016 award was presented to the Van Horn Automotive Group. The firm dates back to the purchase of Wagner Chevrolet in 1966. Since that time, the group has added Van Horn

Dodge (1987), Van Horn Olds (1989) and adding a Hyundai dealership (shortly thereafter). Sheboygan County Budget Auto was added in 2010 and Mazda in 2012. The group also owns several locations outside Sheboygan County. Van Horn plans on opening the Van Horn Truck Center this April in Plymouth. As a family owned business, they remain involved in the communities where they are located. Elkhart Lake Impact Award - The 2016 winner is the Elkhart Lake-Glenbeulah School District. The district was singled out for a lengthy list of reasons, all centered around its philosophy of building partnerships and relationships with the community. In addition to providing a great educational experience for students, the EL-G district serves as a great resource to the people and businesses in the greater Elkhart Lake area. A few examples include community access to buildings and facilities, evening adult LTC classes, day care and summer school programming, annual Veteran’s Day programming and a culinary program that provides special lunches. Education programs continue to dovetail with the needs of the Elkhart Lake business community, including an everexpanding apprenticeship program. Business Innovation Award - presented this year to Delta Publications. As a valuable source of print and online information both in publications and websites, Delta Publications has been instrumental in assisting the Elkhart Lake Chamber in not only editing and producing the Depot Dispatch, but creating an online digital

version of the paper to expand circulation and readership while containing costs. The company has been recognized as an innovator in information technology services, offering online publications, community news sites and assisting customers with building and maintaining their own websites. Volunteer of the Year - In 2016, the Elkhart Lake Chamber recognizes past chamber president Ron Nielsen for his vast service to the community. In addition to serving the Elkhart Chamber, Nielsen has been a member of the Elkhart Lake Lions Club, and a twotime president over the past 28 years. He has served on the village board for 18 years, and was also the first chairperson of the Elkhart Lake Community Development Authority. Nielson has also been a volunteer firefighter with the Elkhart Lake Fire Department for 36 years. Friend of the Community Award - The Kohl Family Foundation was bestowed this honor for 2016. The Kohl Family Foundation, started nearly 20 years ago by the late William “Pete” Kohl, founder of the Plyco Corporation, has been a stalwart in supporting the efforts of the Elkhart Lake-Glenbeulah School District to keep pace in technology eduction. District Administrator Ann Buechel Haack estimated that the foundation has granted more than $400,000 to the schools over that period of time. Those donations provided equipment and opportunities which might not otherwise have been available. One of the other major gifts was the funding of the construction of the Kohl Fitness Center.

D&D ownership changes hands Business as usual through transition for carpentry firm By Mike Mathes

Though the reins of ownership changed for D&D Carpentry February 1, the community may see little change. Long term employees Kate Holzmann and Tyler Holschbach officially purchased D&D Carpentry on that date from its founders Doug and Dan Daun. As part of the succession plan, the Dauns will remain on staff for the next 18 months, continuing to offer their guidance and input for the business they have so successfully cultivate over the past 33 years. In addition, the 10 talented carpenters and masons, known for their exceptional craftsmanship, will all be remaining on staff. Some of those employees have been with the company for more than 25 years. “Most of the public wouldn’t even know that the business has changed hands,” Holzmann said. “To the customer, it will be business as usual. Doug and Dan are going to be around for a while. They aren’t retiring. We have just reconfigured the ownership of the business.”

New roles shaking out

Both of the new owners began their tenure at D&D 15 years ago. Holzmann has served as the office manager and customer contact person during her time at D&D. She also assists with subcontractors to assure that project details are fulfilled. She has a total of 20 years experience in the construction field. Tyler, the lead carpenter for D&D is transition to a project managerial role. He works at expediting projects and managing crews on the job site. He is also taking on more of the job bidding roles in the ownership changeover.

For more than 30 years D&D Carpentry has served home building and remodeling needs in Eastern Wisconsin. This February marked a change of ownership as Tyler Holschbach, second from left, and Kate Holzmann purchased the business from long-time owners Doug and Dan Daun. The Dauns both plan to continue working in the business during a transition period of 18 months. For customers, they indicate, it will be “business as usual” for D&D Carpentry.

Doug and Dan Daun will continue their roles in bidding and managing projects. They have served as excellent mentors to Kate and Tyler, and have served as great role models. “Doug and Dan built a strong reputation and we plan to continue it,” Tyler said. Students Challenged to Solve Problems at St. John the Baptist Catholic School

St. John the Baptist school launched a pilot STEAM program this year to challenge its students with solving problems on their own. The after school STEAM program accompanies the lessons and projects already being done in our school curriculum. STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Math) learning opportunities ensure that all students have the chance to study and be inspired by science, technology, engineering, art and math—and have students challenged to reach their full potential. The program opens new avenues of thought, research, and design while embracing teamwork and creativity.

Ava Lulloff

EL-G Middle school student honored for second quarter

This year’s challenge was the “Dinosaur Dilemma.” Students needed to use STEAM principles to design, build and present a working bionic jaw for a dinosaur.

Elkhart Lake-Glenbeulah Middle School Student Government is proud to recognize Ava Lulloff as the second quarter “Student of the Quarter.” Ava, a sixth grader, was nominated by Ella Feldmann for her caring and polite personality. In addition, it was noted that Ava helps others out with a positive attitude and in a respectful manner. Congratulations to Ava for earning this recognition and proudly representing Elkhart Lake-Glenbeulah Middle School.

Twenty students participated in the program, and parents were invited to have students present their ideas in an Expo in SJB’s Performing Art Center on February 10.

Elkhart Lake Village Report Victory Auto Sales makes plans Victory Auto Sales

Victory Auto Sales will be located at the intersection of Rhine Street and Victory Lane. Owners Jim Balestrieri and Tom Kostrivas are consolidating their Milwaukee operation and moving to Elkhart Lake. They will be constructing a 12,750 square foot building. Most of the building will be used for storage of, up to 90 cars. Most of these cars will be racecars that will be using the facilities at Road America. A portion of the business will be selling high-end cars and vintage motorcycles. Most of the sales are done on the internet, but they will also have a small showroom. The building will be climate controlled for the stored cars. They will also offer detailing services for the stored cars. Construction is planned to begin in May, 2016.

Spring Election

The spring election will be held on Tuesday, April 5, 2016. The Village Ballot has been set. The following will be running for the three open village trustee positions: Village Trustees Steve Kapellen Lynn Shovan John Schott You can vote for, up to, three trustees. Spring Election-Photo ID Required

The Spring election will be held on April 5, 2016. Photo ID will be required at this election and all other elections. The following are some frequently asked questions about the photo ID law:

Do I have the right photo ID?

Below are the acceptable IDs for voting purposes and can be unexpired or expired after the date of the most recent general election (currently, Nov. 4, 2014): • Wisconsin DOT-issued driver license • Wisconsin DOT-issued identification card • Military ID card • U.S. passport There may be other acceptable forms of photo ID, but please contact the Clerk’s office at 920-876-2122 for more information. The address on your ID does not have to be current. Election officials will only look at your ID type, name, picture, and expiration date.

What if I don’t have a photo ID?

If you are eligible to vote but do not have a photo ID, you may obtain a free ID from the Department of Motor Vehicles. Apply for the ID as soon as possible. You’ll need some documents to get the ID. Some records satisfy more than one requirement. For a complete list visit wisconsindot.gov or call (608) 264-7447. Your local DMV office is located at: Department of Motor Vehicles 3603 Kohler Memorial Drive Sheboygan, WI 53081 (800) 924-3570

Elkhart Lake Village Board Members

If you have concerns or questions call any of our Village Trustees

Do I need a photo ID to absentee vote?

Absentee Ballot Requests Requests for ballots sent by mail or email must be accompanied by a photocopy of an acceptable form of voter ID. You will not need to do this with future requests, as long as you have not changed your name or address. In-person Absentee Voting If you are casting an absentee ballot in the municipal clerk’s office, you must present a photo ID, just as you would at the polls. Are there exemptions for absentee voting? Photo ID is not required for the following absentee voters: • Military voters • Voters who are permanently overseas • Confidential voters • Indefinitely confined voters • Nursing home residents whose ballots are delivered by special voting deputies • Residents of care facilities who are not visited by special voting deputies What can I expect at the polling place?

Now that voters are bringing their IDs, voting at your polling place will be a little different. **Please be prepared & patient.

For complete information about the Voter Photo ID Law and its requirements, please visit: bringit.wisconsin.gov or call (866) VOTE-WIS or 920-876-2122. Garbage & Recycling Information

We are finishing our second year under the new Advanced Disposal contract for garbage and recycling collection. According to Advanced Disposal’s Mike Thun, the trash tons have decreased since the carts have been put in place. Recycling tons have improved year over year since 2012 and the biggest increase since using carts. Included is some information on what items should or should not be recycled. As we are finishing our second year using the carts, I thought it would be a good reminder to review what can be recycled.

Recycle Right

Advanced Disposal is here to make communities cleaner and greener. Every time you recycle, it makes a difference.

What else can I recycle?

State It

As always, you’ll need to state your full name and address for the election official who checks you in. They’ll check your information in the poll book. Understandably, some people are uneasy about announcing their name in public, but it is the law, and it helps ensure openness in elections.

Show It

Finally, you’ll sign the poll book (unless a physical disability prevents it). Your signature or mark should go right next to your name and address.

I am able to report many positive accomplishments for the caboose project. Our contractor is working on the parts needed for installation in spring. The Wis DOT has issued a permit allowing the Village to clear the shrubs on the east side of the caboose. This will allow visibility as you drive west on Rhine Street.

Arts center offers Watercolor Fun The Plymouth Arts Center is presenting “Watercolor Fun” a 6-week watercolor class with Artist/Instructor Kathleen Mulholland. The classes will be presented Thursdays, March 31, April 7, 14, 21, 28 and May 5 from 12:303:30pm in the Plymouth Arts Center Classroom. Class fee is $85 for PAC members and $95 for non-members. A supply list will be sent upon registration. Early registration is encouraged to ensure the minimum number of students is met. Wonderful spring is ahead. Time to smell and paint the flowers and other joys of the season. If winter has made you a bit uptight, then it is time to enjoy watercolor again with this loose and free style of painting. You can use this method as a starting point, and then add your personal style. Beginners are definitely welcome. If you do not have paint supplies, Kathleen

will have them on hand for the first class while you order your own materials. A supply list is available upon request. Kathleen Mulholland attended the University of Florida and University of Central Florida, where she received her B.F.A. and M.A. degree respectively. She has mastered many art mediums including oil and batik. Her awards and shows from California to Rhode Island are numerous. Mulholland has taught art at the high school and college level and to adults for over 25 years. To register please contact the Plymouth Arts Center, P.O. Kaczor named spelling bee winner Congratulations to Kylie Kaczor, the champion of the Elkhart Lake-Glenbeulah Middle School Spelling Bee. Kylie is a seventh grader in Ms. Van Duerm’s class. The EL-G Spelling Bee was held on Tuesday, Jan. 19 for students in grades fourth-eighth and lasted 13 rounds. The top three spellers were Kylie, eighth-grader

Morgan Mueller, and fifth-grader Ava Stroessner. Congratulations to all of you. Kylie proudly represented EL-G Middle School at the Wisconsin State Journal Regional Spelling Bee held in Sheboygan County at Acuity Insurance on Monday, Feb. 1 where she took sixth place. Great Job Kylie!

I had the pleasure of spending the last week of January in Winter Park, Colorado, for a family ski vacation. It had been two years since the entire family went to Colorado, and that last trip in 2013 was a doozy. Both Estelle and Edwin became very ill and barely left the house, and our flight home was delayed SEVEN hours. Not fun… Fortunately, this past week was amazing. We had fresh snow each day. Four of the dive days were sunny and (relatively) warm. I even managed to get a bit of a suntan (and some Vitamin D!) by removing my helmet and goggles and soaking in some sun while riding the chair lifts. Both Edwin (5 years old) and Estelle (4) completely surprised me with their ability to ski. Only about an hour was spent “teaching” them before they took off naturally to it! Ellie and I had a feeling that Estelle would do great—she is pretty much fearless when it comes to this type of thing—but even Edwin, who is often a bit more reserved, was skiing without any tethers or harness by the end of the first day! I never thought that I’d have so much fun on the “bunny hill” but I did. It was very rewarding and exciting to spend time outside with them on the hill skiing. I’m already planning on getting them down to Sunburst or maybe up to Wausau at some point at some point this winter, so as to keep the momentum going—or in this case, “sliding downhill.” My father-in-law and I drove out a day before the kids and my wife, Ellie, would arrive with the kids via plane. Therefore, I was able to spend a day skiing with him all over the mountain. My favorite type of skiing is mogul (bump) skiing, and Winter Park is world-renowned for it. Knowing that once the kids arrived, I’d be spending much more time on the bunny hill, he and I took full advantage of that first day. While my father-inlaw has slowed down a step or two on the slopes, he still can ski every mogul run on the hill. He has no problem on any of the “Black Diamond” runs with names like Trestle, Derailer, Boiler, and my personal favorite…the inimitable Outhouse. David is 67 years old and going strong. He has been traveling out to Winter Park for 35 years and the stories he can share of past ski trips are always entertaining. I’ll remember fondly that day on the slopes with him and hope for many more! Once the rest of the family arrived, attention turned quickly to getting them on the hill and nurturing a love for skiing. I only started skiing when I was 19 or 20 and took to it immediately. It’s amazing to see the kids ski so well so young. It wasn’t easy to just kind of “let them go” down the hill while visualizing in my head one of them just crashing straight in to a tree at any moment. While there were some falls and crashes, and some tears, they were always back upright and ready to go again! One other highlight of the week for me, personally, was to get up to Berthoud Pass on three different occasions. Berthoud Pass is the point where the

road to Winter Park goes up and “over” the Continental Divide. At 11,306 feet of elevation, it’s quite a sight indeed. There used to be a ski area up there, but that closed down (and all the ski lifts were taken down) in 2001. It is honestly one of my favorite spots on earth, and, as strange as it probably sounds, I love hiking up the mountain, reaching 12,000 feet of elevation, then skiing back down. Many people in my family simply don’t “get it”—there’s a ski resort with perfectly-good ski lifts to take one up the mountain at any time—but I guess it comes down to a love of using my body to get some place and accomplish some task. I even talked Ellie in to joining me on one of the hikes. It was a beautiful day up there, and I can’t wait to go back. By the way, almost all of the clothing I wore while out there from base layers to outer shells was purchased at Elkhart Lake Outfitters. While admittedly we had spectacular weather, being outside and actually enjoying being outside is made a lot easier with the right stuff. I encourage you to look in to Smartwool and Patagonia clothing from Elkhart Lake Outfitters. The stuff is TOP NOTCH! I truly love skiing and hope I can do it well in to my 60s, 70s, and heck even my 80s! I was able to spend a day with my father-in-law, still going strong, and I’m so thankful that my daughter was skiing at the age of 4! Time spent outdoors and with family is time very, very well spent. I encourage each of you to get outside—yes, even in winter!—and use your muscles and joints. You see, your quality of life is directly dependent upon your personal independence. And personal independence starts with motion & mobility. Use your muscles and joints, keep them strong and limber, and let that sun warm your face when you’re out there.

Irish music show at PAC Celebrate the weekend before St. Patrick’s Day at the Plymouth Arts Center with “Shamrocks & Shenanigans 11, An Irish Music Show” directed by Plymouth’s own Irish Lass, Ms. Mary Calvey. Now in our eleventh year, this ever-popular show has become an annual Irish musical tradition at the Plymouth Arts Center. The show focuses on a wide selection of Irish melodies, including ballads and pub songs, Irish Dancing, and a wee bit o’ laughter thrown in. This year’s talented musicians include: Mary Calvey (Plymouth), director, on vocals and bodhran; Steve Vogt (Grafton) on Irish tenor banjo, guitar, mandolin, ukulele, harmonica and vocals; Laura (Kaat) Van Maaren (Oostburg) on tin whistle, fiddle and vocals; Roger Cass (Cedarburg) on guitar; Daphne (Reindl) Achter (Kiel) on

vocals; Arlene Willman (Random Lake) on autoharp, Bill Rathman (Elkhart Lake) on string bass; Ken Wilhite (Gibbsville) on fiddle and Carter Shilts (Sheboygan Falls) on mandolin. You don’t have to be Irish to appreciate this show! Bring your friends and family members and listen to such beloved Irish songs as “When Irish Eyes Are Smiling” and “Danny Boy.” Clap your hands and stomp your feet to such energetic tunes as “Red-Haired Boy” and “John Ryan.” Sway to such charming melodies as “Sally Gardens” and “Fields of Athrenry.” Watch the amazing footwork of beautiful Irish Dancers. Laugh at good clean Irish jokes. Enjoy some Irish beer at the cash bar. There is sure to be something that everyone will love in this show.
