Fabric-/Foil over Foam Gaskets
Our standard gaskets have a polyurethane foam core which is available in four different hardness values (32 / 45 / 70 / 150 kg/cm3). The foam core is covered with a conductive fabric with a copper-nickel metal coating or aluminium foil.
Tolerances (mm) Width and height (mm)
Our standard portfolio includes a large range of sizes and shapes. Customized dimensions can be supplied at low cost at any time. The material can also be cut to the length you require or modified to suit your individual needs. Our profiles are fitted with a non-conductive adhesive tape as standard. The following other versions are also available: • gaskets with conductive adhesive tape • several adhesive tapes on a single profile • adhesive tapes with removal aid (WRL) • small and miniature parts assembled on self adhesive paper (STP) In addition to their excellent shielding effectiveness (as high as over 80 dB @ 100 MHz – 18 GHz), our seals offer you the following benefits: • they are easy to work and can be cut with a pair of scissors. • they offer high wear resistance. • low contact pressure forces mean that thinner metal plates can be used, which in turn reduces costs. • they have low surface resistance (< 0.08 Ohm). • seals are a cost-saving method of shielding.

Hollow chamber-, Clip-on- and EPDM-Profiles
Hollow chamber-, Clip-on- and EPDM-Profiles
In addition to our standard EMC seals with foam cores, MTC can also supply EPDM/rubber-based EMC seals, such as hollow chamber, slot-in/edge protection and solid profiles. These profiles can be used wherever constructive or functional situations require them.
Both types of section can be supplied in any lengths and also on rolls. We can provide short lead times for slot-in/edge protection and hollow chamber profiles from our standard range. If you require specific widths and heights or crosssections which must be produced using special tools, we have to insist on a minimum purchase quantity to justify our manufacturing costs.
The core of the hollow chamber and slot-in/edge protection profile is made of expanded rubber and is covered with copper-nickel fabric as standard. To order they can also be covered with alternative metal-coated fabrics or aluminium foil. Our hollow chamber profiles can be supplied with or without adhesive tape. They are also available with several adhesive tapes for special applications. Slot-in/edge protection profiles have an integrated loop tape and a U-shaped section. They are extremely flexible and are primarily used on control cabinets.
an acal group company
Our hollow chamber-, clip-on- and EPDM-profiles provide the following advantages: Short delivery time • Available with Cu/Ni coated fabric (standard) and other coatings • Hollow chamber profiles are available with and without adhesive tape •
These slot-in/edge protection profiles are installed by simply being pressed into position on the edges being encased by hand. The profiles are mounted by a clamping effect. No adhesive is required. They are weatherproof and resistant to a temperature range from approx. -25°C to approx. +80°C.

IP/EMC-Gaskets (Combi Gaskets)
In addition to EMC and ESD shielding, protection against environmental influences such as dust and moisture is often also required. This can be achieved by using so-called combi gaskets. Either of the following may be used for this purpose: • separate seals for EMC and IP (Intrusion Protection) or • combi gaskets
IP/EMC-Gaskets (Combi Gaskets)
Our combi gaskets provide the following advantages: • •
•
Which version should be given preference depends primarily on the design situation of the housing or control cabinet that you wish to seal.

Our conductive foam gaskets are perforated at variable intervals before being metal coated in (metal) baths. This completely saturates the foam and makes it fully conductive (both horizontally and vertically), thus ensuring a particularly good conductive connection between the top and bottom. The seals have excellent EMC properties as a result of the small distance between the holes.
Tolerances (mm)
Our conductive foams are available in thicknesses of 0.3 mm to 1.5 mm and can be supplied with a copper-nickel metal coating. They can be used in a temperature range of approx. -25°C to approx. +80°C and feature excellent shielding effectiveness in the high frequency range. Conductive foam seals have improved Z-axis conductivity which means that their shielding properties can be increased to over 90 dB within a wide frequency range. Our foam seals are available in a wide range of standard dimensions. We can supply them either in the form of thin panels which are ideal for shielding large areas or in customized stampings for I/O shielding. MTC will also be delighted to help you in the development of a suitable foam seal for your specific application. We will provide you with a quotation for a suitable solution on the basis of your details (sketch, technical drawing, etc.) and with the inclusion of your electronic device.

Conductive Fabrics and Fleeces
The in-house production of our fabric seals means that we have a wide range of different technical fabrics and fleece types which we can supply exclusively for refinishing. Conductive fabrics and fleeces provide excellent shielding effectiveness. Since this is very lightweight and high strength material, it also features extremely high flexibility.
Conductive Fabrics and Fleeces
an acal group company
Our conductive fabrics and fleeces provide the following advantages: Large selection of different metallized plating (e. g. Cu/Ni, Cu/Ni-SN, Ag, Au, Carbon), densities and knitting types • Also available with conductive adhesive and cut to rolls with width of max. 1070 mm •
Our fabrics and fleeces are generally polyester fabric. The galvanic plating is made by dipping the fabric in several baths. We can supply the material with the following metal coatings: • nickel/copper (Ni/Cu) • silver/copper (Ag/Cu) Depending on your requirements we can supply our fabrics and fleeces with conductive or non-conductive adhesive. Delivery forms are: • on roll in standard width • on roll in customer-specified width • on roll as tape (with electrically conductive adhesive) in standard or customer-specified width

Electrically Conductive Elastomers
Electrically Conductive Elastomers
Constant conductive elastomers
Oriented wires in silicone
Constant conductive elastomers are seals for highest demands, composed of a homogeneous mixture of conductive particles in elastomers.
Wires in silicone are a gasket material consisting of fine monel- or aluminium wires. The wires are vertically to the surface vulcanized in solid or foamed silicone.
In addition to the excellent electrical properties, these seals offer the highest environmental protection (up to IP68).
This sealing material is characterised by high mechanical strength and elasticity.
If electrically conductive elastomers should be resistant against aggressive substances like hydraulic oils and kerosene it is recommended to use fluor silicone as elastomer. Stamped parts or moulded parts are produced according to customer needs.
Conductive coated silicone Silicone cords with an electrically conductive coated skin include a number of very soft gaskets with good shielding properties.
an acal group company
140 points of contact/cm2 ensure best contacting of the gasket with other metal surfaces. The sealing material can be mounted with conventional silicone adhesive (e.g. Momentive RTV103Q-732). In addition to the elastic EMI/RFI shielding the material offers an excellent dust and splash water protection. Solid silicone, used with the right contact pressure, meets the environmental requirements according to IP 65. If it is possible that the seal also contacts with aggressive fluids like hydraulic oil, kerosene, etc. it is advisable to use fluor silicone. Too much compression, when the gasket is mounted in a groove, can result in deformation of the wires.
No electrically conductive fillers are used for the sealing core resulting in ideal properties concerning pressure and resistance to age. The excellent electrical conductivity is ensured by the coated skin that consists of silver filled silicone. The core either consists of foamed silicone profiles or extruded silicone profiles with a shore hardness of 50 shore A. Depending on the material thickness other shore hardnesses are also possible.

Knitted Wire Gaskets
Knitted Wire Gaskets
Knitted wire gaskets consist of metal wires that are knitted and can be formed to several shapes. However, the following shapes have developed to a sort of standard: • round profiles • round core with fin • rectangular profiles • double round core with fin
The elastomer material is mainly neoprene foam, EPDM-foam, PU-foam and silicone-foam, whereat neoprene and EPDM are mostly chosen. A protection against environmental influences, such as dust and circulating air, is given. A protection against water (spraying water etc.) is not possible. If the application requires a resistance against dropping or spraying water then a socalled combi gasket should be chosen. These gaskets consist of a non conductive elastomer with PSA backing and knitted wire gasket that is mounted alongside the edge of the elastomer. The knitted wire can be a full metal mesh gasket as well as a knitted wire over elastomer gasket.
Standard metal wires are: • FCS (tin plated copper clad steel) • monel (alloy of nickel and copper) • stainless steel • aluminium
an acal group company
In some cases it is necessary to use a very soft gasket. This can be realized by knitting just one layer of a very fine metal wire over a PU-foam.
FCS provides very good shielding attenuation also in the magnetic field. Monel provides very good shielding attenuation in combination with a high corrosion resistance. Knitted wire material can also be supplied as flat band material wiht a thickness of approximately 0.5 mm and standard widths from 10 to 300 mm.
As an option a non-conductive PSA can be applied to the gaskets. It should only be seen as a support during the mounting of the gasket. To prevent galvanic corrosion engineers should take notice of the electrochemical potential of the wire in combination to the metal used for the chassis, enclosure etc.
Due to flexible manufacturing processes all requested dimensions can be realized. Dimensions shown just give a picture of what is possible to manufacture. All metal mesh gaskets are normally very hard and recommended for single use only. If the application requires higher gasket elasticity a gasket with an elastomer core should be chosen. Those gaskets consist of an elastomer core that is knitted over with metal wire. Two layers are standard, however, it is also possible to use one layer or more layers.

Other dimensions on request up to a width of 300 mm
Depending on the customer’s needs, the tapes can be supplied in a range of widths and lengths. Stampings are also possible to order. Tin-plated copper and fleece foils can be supplied with mask. The mask acts as a protective cover for the conductive surface for powder coating applications. Before coating, the strip with the mask is positioned and afterwards the mask is removed with the coating on it. After its removal, there is a conductive connection to the base plate and the plate is also protected against corrosion.

Fully laminated mesh wire Two substrates and an electrically conductive metal mesh are laminated together. The mesh overlaps the edge and can be connected directly to the chassis or it also can be done in combination with an electrically conductive gasket.
Selection of the base material: glass (float-, heat treated- and chemical toughened glass) • acrylic glass • polycarbonate glass •
Cut outs in enclosures for display systems are quite difficult to shield. Therefore the industry offers so called EMC- or shielded windows. We offer three different types of transparent shielded windows: • fully laminated mesh windows with flying mesh all around • die casted plastic windows with embedded mesh • glass- or plastic window with electrically conductive coating (ITO = Indium Tin Oxide) Main applications for shielded windows are display systems like LCD-, LED-, plasma displays, monitors and information systems. As such windows are always manufactured according to customer specifications, it is suggested to select as follows:
The following combinations are possible: • glass/mesh/glass • glass/mesh/plastic • plastic/mesh/plastic The very best shielding attenuation can be reached with fully laminated windows. Glass is scratch resistant and plastic is break-proof. Before the lamination of the mesh the orientation of the mesh should be determined. In some applications a lamination at 90° can cause interferences with the display (so called Moire effect). Please refer to the following table for the type of electrically conductive fabric.
1. Selection of the base material (glass or plastic) 2. Selection of the colour of the window (transparent, green, red, blue etc.) 3. Definition of the size and the thickness 4. Construction of the window (butt edge or step construction) 5. Definition of the requested shielding attenuation 6. Definition of the anti-reflection requested (Multi-layer coating or chemical etching) 7. Selection of the gasket type to be used for connecting the window to the chassis

To avoid reflections and to improve the contrast, the fabrics are generally blackened. This process does not modify the electrical conductivity of the fabric. The aperture size of the mesh (opi = openings per inch) affects the transparency of the window. If there is a high-resolution graphic used in the application, the use of a fabric is not recommended. In this case an electrically conductive metallized substrate should be used.

Antireflection
Die casted plastic window
To prevent unwanted reflection of light it is suggested to add an antireflection coating to the substrate.
Contrary to the manufacturing process of fully laminated substrates in this version the mesh is mounted in a mould. The mould will then be filled with liquid plastic.
Possibilities with mineral glass: Multi-layer coating according to MIL SPEC 675 B (less than 0.6% rest of reflection) • Single-layer coating according to DIN 58197 (less than 1.5% rest of reflection) • Chemical etching: 5% anti reflection (called GW 80) 9% anti reflection (called GW 100) 3% anti reflection (called GW 120)
The maximum size of the sheet is 1150 x 850 mm. The range of temperature for cast glass is - 40 ° to + 70 ° C.
•
Possibilities with plastic: • Multi-layer coating according to MIL SPEC 675 B (less than 0.6% rest of reflection) • Single-layer coating according to DIN 58197 (less than 1.5% rest of reflection) • Chemical etching (very diffuse) • Anti-scratch, anti-reflection coating by spraying
an acal group company
The phenomenon of the so-called Moire effect applies here as well. It can be solved by mounting the mesh not in an angle of 90° but i.e. in an angle of 15°, 30° or 45°. The electrically conductive mesh does not overlap the edge at this product. The single wires on the edge of the window serve as contact points. To get a contact from the edge to the surface of the window, silver busbar is applied. The contact to the cabinet or the display frame is implemented by a conductive gasket. Standard material thicknesses are: 1,5 – 2,0 – 2,5 – 3,0 and 4,0 mm Tolerance of the material thickness: ± 0,2 mm
Construction of the window We differentiate two types of construction: silver busbar
•
Butt edge construction In this case a window with given outside dimension will be cutted out and silver busbar will be applied from the edge to one side of the window (on request silver busbar can be applied to both sides of the window).
•
Step edge construction In this case the first step is to cut out the outside dimension of the window. Then the step will be machined and a silver busbar will be applied from the edge to the surface of the step.

ITO (Indium Tin Oxide) coatings can be applied on glass as well as on plastic. With plastic ITO is applied under vacuum at lower temperature. Surface conductivities up to < 10 Ohm-square can be reached. With glass a higher temperature can be used and therefore surface resistance can be reduced to < 2,5 Ohm-square. Main applications are: • EMI/RFI shielding • ESD (protection against electro static discharge) • heated optical filters for displays • active components for touch-screens Light transmission, absorption and reflection are determined by the properties and the colour of the base material. The thickness of the coating is choosen in relation to the wave length in the application to guarantee the best light transmission. Generally they are between 525 und 600 nm. Typical transmission of a 20 Ohm-square coating is 84 %. Silver busbar will be used to create a contact area from the coating to the surface of the substrate. Antireflection possibilities with mineral glass: • Multi-layer coating according to MIL SPEC 675 B (less than 0.6% rest of reflection) • Single-layer coating according to DIN 58197 (less than 1.5% rest of reflection) • Chemical etching: 5% anti reflection (called GW 80) 9% anti reflection (called GW 100) 13% anti reflection (called GW 120) Antireflection possibilities with plastic substrates: • Multi-layer coating according to MIL SPEC 675 B (less than 0.6% rest of reflection) • Single-layer coating according to DIN 58197 (less than 1.5% rest of reflection) • Chemical etching (very diffuse) • Anti-scratch-, anti-reflection coating by spraying Due to the additional „index match coating“, a transmission up to 99% can be achieved.

Honeycomb Vent Panels
Honeycomb Vent Panels
Aluminium honeycomb air ventilation panels consist of an aluminium honeycomb foil held in a rigid extruded aluminium mounting frame. The foil, formed and laminated into a series of honeycomb cells that are glued and perforated or laser welded at the join, ensures a conductive path at each join.
Availability There is no standard at honeycomb vent panels. Customers can choose from a variety of frame types and mounting methods.
Although the foil is conductive in all directions, two pieces of honeycomb polarised at 90º to each other are recommended to enhance EMI performance. Shielding is achieved by using waveguide design principles (honeycomb length four times cell diameter). The frame can be supplied with an integrated or separate EMI/RFI gasket and can be treated with a variety of finishes to provide corrosion protection or improve conductivity. Applications Ventilation panels are designed for use in electronic enclosures where good air flow is required for cooling and ventilation but where EMC compliance must be ensured.
an acal group company

Contact Springs
Contact Springs
Contact strips are used to close and shield gaps between two surfaces. For optimum shielding performance, the contact strip should be able to close the minimal and maximal gap.
Please note: Contact strips can be cut to length on customer request. A cut can only be done in the gap between the fingers. Due to manufacturing tolerances it is recommended to state the number of fingers rather than a given length.
Contact springs are made of copper-beryllium (CuBe) or stainless steel. Copperberyllium is a material that offers excellent spring characteristics in combination with a high material strength. Further advantages are corrosion resistance and self cleaning of contacts by opening and closing. Copper-beryllium is resistant against air, ozone, solvent, UV light and even against nuclear radiation. It can be used over a wide temperature range and shows excellent thermal and electric conductivity. In comparison to other EMI/RFI gaskets, contact strips are lighter and require less closing force. They are also inflammable and free from outgassing. The wide profile range in combination with several mounting methods creates an universal shielding gasket. The easiest mounting methods are clip-on and the type using a double sided pressure sensitive adhesive tape. Soldering or spot welding ensure very good grounding and contact. Generally the electrochemical reaction should be considered to avoid galvanic corrosion. In many cases it is recommended to use special surface treatment (i.e. tin plating).

As standard contact strips are supplied in bright clean surface (copper). On request a surface finish like tin plating, zinc plating, nickel plating, silver plating, gold plating etc. can be applied. When using the correct compression force the contacts will not be damaged and thereby maintain their excellent spring characteristic.
Our contact springs offer the following advantages: Different surfaces available (e. g. blank, gold plated, silver plated, nickel plated, tin plated, zinc plated) • Custom length available •

SMD Contact Springs
SMD Contact Springs
Our SMD contact springs can be supplied in a very wide range of dimensions and shapes. Our standard range includes a large number of different spring types in heights from 1.5 mm to 13 mm.
Typical applications of SMD contact springs SMD springs are ideal for the automatic assembly of printed circuit boards. They are supplied in bulk form or in belts which means that the SMD contact springs are perfect for mass production using standard assembly units.
Do you require a different design or a different size than those in our standard range? Depending on your requirements and your installation situation we can also supply customized SMD springs at low tooling costs and part prices. Our technical personnel will be delighted to help you if you have any questions or require advice in the design and development support phase. We can provide gratis drawings of our SMD contact springs in STEP or IGES format. Characteristics and features The standard base material used for our SMD contact springs is copper-beryllium (CuBe). However, we can also use other materials such as stainless steel, titanium copper or phosphorus bronze. Copper-beryllium is easy to work and resistant to corrosion and abrasion. Even high temperatures and temperature fluctuations or high mechanical stresses have no influence on its excellent connection properties. In addition, CuBe is extraordinarily elastic and can withstand a great deal more bending than a steel spring, for example. Normally our SMD springs are gold-plated since, with the exception of “royal water” (a mixture of hydrochloric acid and nitric acid), acids are not aggressive towards gold and therefore gold provides excellent corrosion protection. In addition the gold-plated surface is ideal for soldering. Of course, other finishes (for example tin or nickel) can be ordered, too.
an acal group company
SMD contact springs are exclusively soldered on printed circuit boards. They are particularly useful for the following: • to make contact between the PCB’s earth and the housing, • to make a low Ohm HF connection between the earthing points of two PCBs positioned one on top of the other, • to earth cooling units on a high frequency basis, • to connect signal and power supply cables between two PCBs positioned one on top of the other, • to connect the PCB and elements which are not on the PCB (for example an embedded antenna) or to create external connections.
Please note: Replace XX in the item number by the desired surface plating. Standardly, SMD springs are gold-plated. Other platings are possible: gold-plated ....... AU tin-plated .......... SN zinc-plated........ ZN
SMD contact springs are fail-safe and very resistant. They also have an almost unlimited service life.

Board Level Shields
Board Level Shields
In addition to a shielding of the electronic housing it may be useful or even necessary to shield the interference source directly on the Printed Circuit Board. This is often required to comply with current EMC laws relating to outgoing and incoming radiation and / or to guarantee the safe function of the assembly.
It does not matter whether they are for prototypes or for mass production, in small or large quantities, shielding covers are a low cost way of providing a direct shield for your printed circuit board to prevent EMC radiation. To avoid heat and associated disorders of the components it is recommended to provide air-holes in the cover.
Board Level Shielding Cans can be made of a range of materials: • tin plated steel • stainless steel • German silver • copper beryllium Optionally the user can choose between the following delivery forms: • one-piece shields • two-piece shields (frame and cover) • SMD-compatible shielding clips and separate covers One-piece shields are a metallic shielding consisting of five sides. The sixth side is determined by the connection to the electrical grounding path on the PCB. Two-piece shields are divided into the so-called fence and the cover. The advantage of this is that the cover can be fitted belatedly (e. g. after the alignment of a component).
an acal group company
SMD-compatible shielding clips offer the advantage that they can be installed individually on the printed circuit board and thus establish a „fitting“ for the shielding cover. Depending on the size of the area to shield the usage of one or more clips per side is recommended. Shielding clips are made of tin-plated steel and are supplied on belt. Board Level Shields (also called shielding cans) achieve a high shielding effectiveness if they are designed appropriately. They are used in almost every industrial sector. In addition to this product range MTC offers the possibility to integrate a thermally conductive gap filler in the shielding cover if a high heat dissipation is required. If a higher shielding effect in the high-frequency range is required the same is possible by integrating micro-wave absorbers in the shielding cover.
One-piece and two-piece shields are mounted on the PCB using either THT or SMD technology. Besides standard Board Level Shields MTC can also supply EMC shielding housings which are specially designed to your specifications.

The use of plastic housings and plastic components is widely spread in all kinds of industries. To fullfil the requirements concerning the limits of immunity and emission to interference, those housings and components need to be fully or selectively coated. Normal processes to achieve this is galvanic surface treatment, vacuum disposit or spray coating with electrically conductive paint (wet paint).
an acal group company
Those paints are solvent based or water based paints that contain electrically conductive particles.
Item number Our offer is focused on highly conductive paints using the following fillers (particles): • passivated copper particles • silver plated copper particles • pure silver particles
Base material Particles Solids (% per weight +/- 2) Density (+/- 0.03) Resistivity at XX μ dry film thickness
Advantages of using electrically conductive paints are: • best electrical conductivity • easy to apply • cost-effective Unfortunately not every plastic is the same. With the variety of plastics and plastic blends it is necessary to test the adhesion of the electrically conductive paint on the substrate. Therefore we offer our customers to send the substrate that needs to get painted to us. In a laboratory those substrates will be applied with the suggested conductive paint. Following that process the substrate will be tested to the achievements of adhesion, surface resistivity and dry film thickness of the paint. Those measurements will then be supplied back to the customer together with the coated substrate.

Thermally Conductive Products
Thermally Conductive Products

Thermally Conductive Paste Thermally conductive paste is the most common material used in systems and devices for thermal management. Main criteria for choosing thermally conductive paste are the thermal properties as well as the processing capacities. Thermal conductive paste builts a thin binding film for very good thermal conductivity through the low thermal resistance. With electronic systems and equipments are getting smaller and, at the same time, clock speed is rising, thermal management becomes more and more important. Heat must be transferred from the component to the heat think or any other type of cooling device because heat causes: • slower operation speed • early failures • other power problems.
Due to low viscosity of the material it can be applied by silk screening or masking technology. Our product range includes thermally conductive pastes with a thermal conductivity between 0.9 up to 4.5 W/m*K.
Item number To increase heat dissipation it is suggested to use thermally conductive products as a connection between the „hot spot“ and the cooling device. The connection (without use of an appropriate thermally conductive product) can consist of air up to 80%. Thermally conductive materials have been developed to compensate uneven surfaces. By displacing the air with a highly conductive material heat dissipation is increased and the module is better cooled.

Gap fillers are supplied as die cut gasket or in standard sheets. As far as the thermal conductivity is concerned, material between 1,0 W/m*k to 7 W/m*K is offered. Gap Fillers are sticky by nature. This can be single- or double-sided. The use of double-sided adhesive tapes is not necessary in most cases.
Example how to order: Looking for a standard sheet in thickness of 2.5 mm with a thermal conductivity of 3.0 W/m*K. Material should be ultra soft and sticky on one side. Item number: TCGF-3,0-UW-210x297x2,5-SST

Thermally Conductive Tapes
Thermally Conductive Insulators
Thermally conductive adhesive tapes are used for bonding heatsinks and other cooling devices with the warm component.
Thermally conductive insulators are characterized by a good heat dissipation and an excellent dielectric strength.
The tapes can be supplied as double sided adhesive film or with fibre glass carrier. They are filled with thermally conductive ceramic or metallic particles.
Insulators are mainly used with power transistors, such as TO-220, TO-247 and IGBTs. The material is available in thicknesses from 0.13 - 0.5 mm.
an acal group company
Thermally conductive tapes eliminate the need for external clamps and curing. Depending on the material, the thermal conductivity is between 1.5 and 3.0 W/m*K . Other characteristics are: • high bond strength to surfaces • thermal conductivity in combination with electrical isolation • excellent wet-out • very high temperature stability
