Life Group Sermon Study

Jesus Revealed September 6/7, 2014

Break the Ice:

ENGAGE

(The purpose of these first questions is to help your group open up. Please don’t feel like you have to ask each question. Once you feel like the group is ready, move onto the “Inspire” section.)

• What’s the funniest or most unusual thing you’ve witnessed at a wedding? • What did God teach you during the message this weekend? Did anything in particular stand out? Prayer: Take some time to pray for God to speak to your group through this week’s study. Questions:

IN SP IRE

(Since the group may need time to process each question, don’t let silence scare you. Try to avoid filling the space with unnecessary explanation or moving on from the question too quickly.)

As a group, read these passages out loud before you start: John 2:1-22, Matthew 19:29, 2 Corinthians 5:17, and 1 Corinthians 3:16. 1. When you read John 2:1-11, what was your first reaction to this story? • What does this passage tell us about Jesus? What does it tell us about His relationship with His mother? • Why do you think Jesus chose this event for His first miracle? • What was the result in the lives of Jesus’ new disciples?

2. After witnessing this miracle, the disciples “believed in Him” (verse 11). Why do think that was? • What events have increased your belief in Jesus? In the sermon this weekend, Matt said, “Jesus turns water into wine just like He turns sinners into saints.” • Share with the group the first time you believed Jesus was the Son of God. • What transformation have you seen in your own life since coming to faith in Christ? • What cost or sacrifices have come because of your faith?

3. In John 2:13-22, the disciples witnessed Jesus clearing the temple. What was the outcome for them after seeing Jesus’ interaction at the temple? • Why do you think Jesus clearing the temple led the disciples to a deeper belief in Him? • How has God’s Word moved you towards a deeper faith?

4. We learned from Matt that Jesus came as a lion and a lamb, and that worshipping Him means we worship who Jesus really is instead of our own concept/desire of what we think He might be. • How do we benefit from knowing Jesus as a lion and a lamb? • What does it mean to worship Jesus as He really is instead of our own concept/desires of what we think He might be? Application:

EQUIP

(These questions will challenge your group members to apply the study to their daily lives. It is highly important that you go over this section with your group each week for the group study to be a success. Set aside 15-20 minutes at the end of your study to go over this section.)

Read 1 Corinthians 3:16-17. • What truths are revealed from this passage? • Identify one to two distractions that prevent you from fully worshipping Jesus. • Identify one to two ways you want to grow in your worship. Prayer: Take some time to pray over each group member’s identified action steps and life issues. Equip Your Mind: “When therefore He was raised from the dead, His disciples remembered that He had said this, and they believed the Scripture and the word that Jesus had spoken.” (John 2:22, ESV)
