We will identify, sound out, trace & write both uppercase and lowercase Yy. We will also make a list of Y-words. We will focus on phonics-related activities, highlighting the beginning sounds of words. We will learn about farm animals and farm life. We will also learn about measurement through different group activities.

What’s Happening: *Book Share: Please encourage your child to bring in books that involve the letter Y and/or farm animals. *Tues/Wed, April 4-5th: School Picture Days *Wed 4/12: PTF Meeting @ 8am *Fri 4/14: SCHOOL CLOSED *Sun 4/26: Knight of St. George’s

Environment: Blocks- Provide images different farm animals and a big red barn to the blocks and encourage the children to build their own structures to house the animals Dramatic Play- Provide animal-inspired costumes and props and encourage the children to roleplay as different roles within the farm life Writing- Provide laminated sheet activities focusing on diagonal lines, the letter Y, tracing farm animal names & matching baby farm animals to adult farm animals & last name cards Group Time- Read /y/ alliteration books, create a page with Y-words, review farm animal sounds and vocabulary, read Grover’s Farm and Baby Animals, “Down on Grandpa’s Farm” song & “Animal Legs” finger play Small Group- Three Little Pigs and Big Red Barn audiobooks at our listening center, farm animal felt sets, Animal Sounds listening lotto game, create our own version of animal sounds, shared writing experience, complete the Y-page of our HWT workbook & play different board games Fine Motor- Yarn wraps using cardboard Ys and yarn pieces, painting with yarn brushes, gluing & applying different materials like cotton balls, pom poms, googly eyes to create different farm animals & painting with toothbrushes onto horse templates Science/Math- Count-the-spot game using a spot-less cow template and numeral dice, counting and graphing with classroom objects, puzzle work with large floor puzzles & small 15-25 pc puzzles, explore farm animal life, recreate a farm habitat in the sensory table, mix & measure ingredients to make ooze, explore consistencies as the ooze warms/cools and hardens/strains, create an “Animal Wash” in the sensory table & shadow play with farm animal figurines on the overhead projector Outdoor- Classroom patio art using yarn paintbrushes, play a guessing game with farm animal vocabulary, pretend to move like farm animals by galloping, hopping, jumping, etc.
