Volunteer Check-in ◊ Arrive at 6:00am; Report to Volunteer Check-in Tent ◊ Setup Volunteer Check-in Tent, T-shirts, lanyards, sign-in sheets ◊ Check-in all volunteers promptly upon their arrival ◊ Pass out Volunteer t-shirt (desired size) on a first-come-first-serve basis. Finish Line  T-Shirts for Participants ◊ As soon as all volunteers and coaches are checked in, we can begin turning the tables into tables for participants to pick up their T-shirts. ◊ Hang signs that indicate sizes on the tents above or on the tables. ◊ Lay out a stack of T-shirts for each size; leave extras under the table directly below. ◊ One volunteer should encourage runners to look at their size on their bib and line up accordingly ◊ Other volunteers hand out shirt and mark or punch the bib to indicate that a shirt has been picked up. ◊ Only give out shirts to runners with a medal-which should be only girls in the program. Other runners should have received a shirt when they picked up their bib. Refer any questions or problems to Anne, Kathleen, or Patty. ◊ Volunteer Times: 7:00-10:00am ◊ Thank you for volunteering at the GOTR 5k!  Finish Line Refreshments ◊ Arrive at 700am; Check-in at Volunteer Check-in Tent; ◊ Once table is set up, one person can stay at table, others please assist with Information Tent until 8:00 ◊ If table is not set up, place bananas and water on table. ◊ Don’t let people have banana or water until after the race. ◊ Clean up area-be sure to recycle water bottles as much as possible ◊ Volunteer times: 7:30-9:30am ◊ Thank you for volunteering at the GOTR 5k!

Finish Line-(continued)  Finish Line Medals ◊ Arrive at 730am; Check-in at Volunteer Check-in Tent; ◊ Organize medals so they will be easy to distribute. ◊ Put arm through ribbon and pull off one at a time ◊ Only GIRLS in green shirts should receive a medal. Kindly explain that we don’t have enough for everyone; only girls who participate. Don’t argue if someone insists-it’s not worth upsetting yourself!  ◊ Volunteer times: 7:30-9:30am ◊ Thank you for volunteering at the GOTR 5k!  Start/Finish Line Crowd Control ◊ Arrive at 7:30am; Check-in at Volunteer Check-in Tent ◊ Head over to start/finish line at 7:45am ◊ At the start of the race, volunteers will make sure the participants line up behind the start line. They will also keep starting line free of spectators and families, keeping the path clear for the runners. ◊ At the finish, volunteers will keep traffic flowing inside the finish “chute”, making sure groups aren’t standing around inside the chute. This area fills up very quickly and needs to stay as clear as possible. One In a Million Station ◊ Arrive at 6:30am; Check-in at Volunteer Check-in Tent ◊ Set-up the table(s) with the supplies distributed to your designated area--tattoos, coloring sheets, markers, and Raffle slips ◊ Assist girls with applying waterless tattoos, filling out slips, etc. ◊ Clean up your designated area, disposing of trash and table cloths. Any unused materials and reusable materials returned to the supply bin and brought to the GOTR Information Tent ◊ Volunteer times: 6:30-9:00am ◊ Thank you for volunteering at the GOTR 5k!

Photo Stop ◊ Arrive at 6:30am; Check-in at Volunteer Check-in Tent ◊ Set-up the photo stop according to directions included ◊ Encourage girls, coaches, families, etc. to have their photo made in front of the backdrop. This can be before AND especially after the race! ◊ Give out paper to let people know how to send photos to GOTR Gaston ◊ Clean up your designated area and take down photo stop ◊ Volunteer times: 6:30-10:00am ◊ Thank you for volunteering at the GOTR 5k!

Happy Hair Station ◊ Arrive at 6:30am; Check-in at Volunteer Check-in Tent ◊ Set-up the Happy Hair tent with the supplies distributed to your designated area. Set up includes: ◊ Set up the table with plastic table cloths ◊ Set up the Happy Hair Banner to display your designated area ◊ Provide Happy Hair Volunteers with Spray Hair Color and hide extra materials to ration throughout the morning ◊ Ensure that you limit the amount of hair spray that is accessible to the girls-make it last! ◊ Create a happy environment where the girls are excited to visit. This area can become congested quickly ◊ Create a few happy hair stations where participants and family members may have their hair sprayed. Do not allow the girls to spray each other. Only volunteers should be spraying participant’s hair ◊ Remaining volunteers should be restocking and assisting with hair spraying as necessary ◊ Once the 5k begins, please continue to help at happy hair until the last person is done ◊ Clean up your designated area, tossing empty hair spray cans, taking down the happy hair sign and packing up any area materials ◊ Return all extra materials to the information tent for safe keeping ◊ Volunteer times: 6:30-8:00am ◊ Thank you for volunteering at the GOTR 5k!

Course Monitor *SEE COURSE MAP/KEY (page 18) ◊ Arrive at 7:00am; Check-in at Volunteer Check-in Tent ◊ Volunteers will need to be at their positions by 7:30am. ◊ Make sure you are aware of which direction runners will be coming from and which direction to turn. This course can be especially challenging because runners will come back the same way they ran; so they will be passing each other sometimes. Running Buddy ◊ Arrive at 6:30am; Check-in at Volunteer Check-in Tent ◊ If possible, you will receive information about your match before the race. If not, please check at the Volunteer Check-In Tent for your match ◊ We encourage coaches and parents to let us know, but it is possible that we won’t have a match for you. ◊ Volunteer times: 6:30-your buddy finishes the 5k ◊ Thank you for volunteering at the GOTR 5k! Sparkle Runner ◊ Arrive at 6:30am; Check-in at Volunteer Check-in Tent ◊ Run the course, looking for girls who may need a little more encouragement. Cheer for them, talk to them, and generally make sure everyone is having fun! Often our girls’ Running Buddies may not be all positive and encouraging, so you can come along and change that dynamic. ◊ We will provide a GOTR cape for you to borrow, but you are welcome to add a tu-tu, crazy socks, wings, a wand, or whatever else you makes you SPARKLE! ◊ Volunteer times: 6:30 until the end of the race ◊ Thank you for volunteering at the GOTR 5k!
