Family Worship Guide Week of June 21st, 2015 What are some ways we need to trust God in our lives?

One of the ways SC Kids partners with parents to make disciples of Jesus is to provide resources that promote discipleship in the home. This Family Worship Guide is intended to give parents content from this week’s lesson to discuss with their children throughout the week.

ADDITIONAL RESOURCES For additional family devotionals you can purchase “Old Story New: Ten Minute Devotions to Draw Your Family to God” at amazon.com or from the Sacred City Bookstore on Sunday.

REVIEW

SING

This Sunday’s lesson was called “Jesus Walks on Water” and comes from Matthew 14:25-34. For a children’s bible version you can refer to Story 100 of the Gospel Story Bible.

GOSPEL

Singing is a great way for kids to experience and memorize God’s Word. Here are a few family favorites: Preschool age - “Cedarmont Kids - Bible Songs” and for Preschool and Elementary age children we recommend the Morning Star Catechism CD (available at the SC bookstore) as well as Seeds Family Worship.

Jesus was no ordinary man. He was more than a great teacher: Jesus was, and is, God. When the disciples in the boat saw Jesus walk on the stormy waves, they worshiped him as God. Little did they know that this same Jesus, who had power over the wind and the waves, who could walk on water and heal all the sicknesses of those who came to him, would soon die on the cross for their sins.

PRAY

If Jesus had not been God, he should have rebuked the disciples for worshiping him. But Jesus did not correct them. There, in the middle of the sea, Jesus received the worship of the disciples.

Thank Jesus for the way that he saves those who cry out to him. Ask for God to save your friends and family who don’t know Jesus yet.

In this story, Peter cried out, “Lord, save me.” His words were more profound than he could realize. Our own sin separates us from God. We need to cry out with those same words: “Lord, save me.” As he did with Peter, the Lord extends his hand to save and deliver us safely to the shore of heaven.

Preschool & Lower Elementary
Q 4. How can you glorify God?
A 4. By loving Him and doing what He commands.

John 17:4 I have brought you glory on earth by completing the work you gave me to do. 1 John 5:3 This is love for God: to obey his commands. And his commands are not burdensome. Lower Elementary Q 5. Why should you glorify God?
A 5. Because He made me and takes care of me.

DISCUSS What did Peter say when he cried out to Jesus? ”Lord, save me.” What did Jesus do to save Peter? Jesus reached out his hand and then corrected Peter because he doubted and did not believe.
