Obey and See 1 Samuel 16 12-02-12 1. Last week’s message reminded us that our security and peace come not from what we can do but from letting the Lord lead us. As we learned this week, this is because we cannot trust what we see. Share a time in your life when you thought you saw clearly where things were headed only to find you were completely wrong? 2. Read 1 Samuel 16:7 together and see how differently Samuel and God view things. Discuss together different ways that our views differ from Gods. 3. Pastor Jim stressed that verse 7 is the most important of the passage. What makes this passage so important for us as Christians? 4. Read from Hebrews 11:1-8. Discuss how these characters trusted in the Lord’s leading instead of on what they were able to see. 5. As we learned from 1 Samuel; Samuel, Saul’s servants and David were able to see more clearly than others because they were in positions of submission and obedience to God. Read the Jeremiah 17:7, Psalm 112:7 and Proverbs 3:5 and discuss how these tie together. 6. Obedience precedes sight. Pastor Jim offered several examples in which this is true. Share a time from your life when you felt that God had called you or is calling you to step out in faith and obedience without knowing how it would turn out. 7. Spend some time thinking about people in your life; relatives, friends, co-workers. Pray together for those in your life who are not Christians that they can take the first step towards faith and obedience. Pray as well for the Christians in your life that they can continue to be obedient with their faith.
