Director of Children’s Formation Christian Formation Associate Rector of St. David’s Exempt/Salaried

SUMMARY: The Director of Children’s Formation will have responsibility for working with children from age 3 through 5th grade and their parents and will oversee the work of the part-time Children’s Formation Coordinator. The Director of Children’s Formation will report to the Associate Rector of St David’s and will also work closely with, and have support from St. David’s Youth Minister, the Director of St. David’s Day School, and other clergy and lay staff. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. duties may be assigned.

1. Provide program and activity opportunities that are accessible and welcoming to all children regardless of socio-economic background, ethnicity, sexual-orientation, physical or mental abilities. 2. Coordinate Sunday children’s program offerings, including teacher and catechist recruitment, training and on-going support, attendance and purchasing or design of curriculum. 3. The Director of Children’s Formation will also oversee staff in arranging for room set-up and supply needs. Currently children’s programming includes use of Catechesis of the Good Shepherd and Spark. 4. Develop programs and initiatives based on the five Touchstones of St. David’s ministries: Worship, Formation, Service, Fellowship and Invitation/Evangelism 5. Work closely with and maintain a smoothly coordinated working relationship with St. David’s Day School, its director and staff. 6. Organize and coordinate weekly Children’s Chapel during the 9 a.m. Historic Church service. 7. Plan and coordinate special seasonal children’s programs. 8. Plan and coordinate Vacation Bible School (VBS) including recruitment of teachers and other volunteers. 9. Participate in weekly staff meetings and in periodic planning meetings to present information about planned Children’s Formation activities. 10. Work closely with the Director of Communications to publicize all weekly and monthly events in appropriate parish publications and communicate upcoming events, deadlines, and opportunities to children and parents through a variety of media.

11. Work with the parents to keep them informed of the plan and scope of Children’s Formation program and, working with other parish staff and resources, make available resources and educational opportunities for parents. 12. Develop and maintain program budget. 13. Work with the clergy of St. David’s to provide pastoral care for children and their families. 14. Be an advocate for children and their families. ESSENTIAL JOB REQUIREMENTS: EDUCATION – Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) from four-year college or university; 2 years related experience and/or training in children’s ministry; or equivalent combination of education and experience. EXPERIENCE -- 2 years related experience and/or training in children’s ministry; or equivalent combination of education and experience SKILL and ABILITIES – • Excellent verbal and written skills. • Strong analytic and organizational skills; capacity for strategic planning and initiatives; and ability to follow-through with attention to detail in all related activities. • Ability to work on multiple tasks and priorities. • Exceptional interpersonal skills, diplomacy, tact, and professionalism. • Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information. • Self-starter who is comfortable collaborating and working as part of a team. • Proficiency in all Microsoft Office products. • Ability to effectively make presentations to individuals and large groups. • Experience in and/or willingness to learn the various social media opportunities and networks. • Understanding of theology of stewardship in the Christian tradition. LANGUAGE SKILLS – Strong written and verbal communications skills. Ability to communicate verbally both in person and by phone. Position may require sitting for long periods of time while working at a computer or talking on the phone. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close and color vision. Ability to stand or walk for prolonged periods of time. Ability to stoop, kneel, bend, reach overhead, climb stairs, and lift up to 50 lbs.
