Girls on the Run® is a life-changing, character development program for girls in 3rd through 8th grade with a mission to inspire girls to be joyful, healthy and confident using a fun, experience-based curriculum which creatively integrates running.
INTERNSHIP/SERVICE LEARNING OPPORTUNITIES Girls on the Run of WNC (GOTR of WNC) is a non-profit 501(c)(3) community-based organization and an independent council of Girls on the Run International, founded in 1996. The WNC Council has served over 11,000 girls across fourteen counties in the past 15 years. Our 275+ volunteer coaches mentor over 1,000 young girls (3rd through 8th graders) with a 10-week, 20-lesson curriculum (offered in fall and spring) that combines training for a 5K with self-esteem enhancing, uplifting lessons. We integrate running with specific life-skills training such as healthy decision-making, dealing with bullies, contributing to the community, leadership and teamwork.
