SNOWSHOEING EQUIPMENT LIST Snowshoes will be provided by Alpine Endeavors, if you have your own feel free to bring them. Items you'll need to have. Hardware: Pack - Large enough to carry all the following items listed below. Water bottle(s) - Two quarts, must be a non-glass container and recommended to have insulated parkas to keep water from freezing. A thermos is a great idea. Food – Energy bars, sandwiches, snacks, etc. Something that can be eaten on the go. Adjustable trekking poles - optional - but handy for snowshoeing and/or hiking Clothing - Be prepared to be both moving and standing outdoors in temperatures from 40 degrees down to ten below zero. Keep in mind that in the winter "cotton kills". Be sure to wear clothing made out of synthetic materials (polyester, nylon, etc.) for natural fibers like wool. Fleece and Wool are great choices for most layers, down is a great insulator for the top layer, just be sure to keep it dry! Use the layering system that consists of the following: A wicking first layer : capaline, bergaline, merino wool, etc.. A light to mid-weight insulating layer - micro fleece, 100 or 200 weight fleece, R1. A heavier insulating layer - either a large insulated parka or an additional layer of 200 or 300 weight polartec/fleece, or down. You want this layer to go over all the clothes you have to keep you warm while you are standing or sitting. A protective windproof/waterproof/breathable outerlayer - gore-tex, event, etc, or the new soft-shells (even though most are not waterproof) are great for winter activities. Two different weight hats or one hat if your parka has a hood. Having one hat that is thin is helpful to wear while moving. Two pairs or gloves or mittens, different weights are a good idea. A synthetic liner sock under your wool or synthetic sock. Goggles and face protection (masque, balaclava, etc.) if the temperature is going to be in the single digits or lower. High gators to keep the snow out of your boots.

Other: Any personal medications you may need Glasses if you are wearing contact lenses Personal first aid kit - optional Headlamp/flashlight with extra batteries - optional Camera with extra battery - optional
