MONDAY, TUESDAY, WEDNESDAY, THURSDAY, FRIDAY Piano Lessons

Grades K - 8

My name is Julie Pierce and I'm excited to be able to offer piano lessons at St Paul this year. I am a long time St Paul parent with my youngest child beginning third grade this year and I have an even longer history as a pianist, music teacher, choral director and singer. I received my degree in Music Education, with piano as my principle instrument, from the University of Michigan in 1992 and have been teaching piano, music directing and singing ever since. I love teaching students to love music through the piano. Rather than teaching piano simply from a set method or curriculum, I prefer to cater to the musical needs of each child. I do like to use a standard method book or series as a guide, but I also draw from a wealth of musical resources outside the method books specific to each student's needs. In addition, I incorporate music theory & history, ear training and sight singing to fully round out the learning experience. Learning the piano can be a great springboard to a lifetime experience with music! It would be a joy for me to be on part of that musical journey with your child. Time: ½ hour lessons, time to be arranged with instructor. Email Julie at [email protected] Instructor: Julie Pierce Fees: $30/half hour lesson

WEDNESDAY, FRIDAY Guitar and Ukulele Lessons

All Grades

During lessons students will learn about scales, chords, reading music, and how to play with other musicians. We will also have the opportunity to learn some of the students favorite songs. We will use these songs to learn about new chords, strumming patterns, improvisation, theory, and songwriting. My goal is to take some of these more complicated aspects of guitar and make them easy to understand. This way the student can have fun and develop a love for music! Time: ½ hour lessons, time to be arranged with instructor. Email Austin at [email protected] Instructor: Austin Netherton Fees: $25/half hour lesson

TUESDAY, WEDNESDAY, THURSDAY Violin Lessons

All Grades

My name is Zachary Ragent, and I am excited to be teaching Suzuki violin lessons at St. Paul this year. I received my Master’s and Specialist’s degrees in violin performance at the University of Michigan, where I also registered my Suzuki training with Mark Mutter. The way children learn their native language provides the model for how the Suzuki method teaches music and the violin. Key components of the method include parent involvement and support, the opportunity to begin at a young age, peer learning in addition to individual lessons, and an emphasis on listening and repetition. As a teacher, I strive to create a positive environment in which students develop tools for artistic expression, a process that ultimately nurtures students’ growth as learners, musicians, and engaged members of their communities. In line with Dr. Suzuki’s philosophy of “every child can,” I believe that a supportive musical setting can empower all students, regardless of background or current abilities. Each student will receive instruction in three formats: a weekly private lesson in which I provide instruction for the student and parent, a weekly group lesson (peer learning), and daily home lessons (practice) in which the parent is the teacher. These three different learning environments work in harmony to nurture the student’s development. Days: Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday to be arranged with instructor. Email Zachary at [email protected] Individual Lessons: 30/45/60 minute depending on student age and level (parental attendance mandatory). All beginning violin students should initially enroll in 30 minute lessons. Group lessons: 45 minutes on Wednesday Afternoons (Parental attendance optional but encouraged) Fees for the fall are based on private and group lessons between 9/19 and 12/15, and can be paid in full or in four monthly installments. 30 Minute Lesson: $528 ($132/month) (Note: This is equivalent to approximately $19 per 30 minutes) 45 Minute Lesson: $693 ($173.25/month) (Note: This is equivalent to approximately $29 per 45 minutes) 60 Minute Lesson: $858 ($214.50/month) (Note: This is equivalent to approximately $38 per 60 minutes)
