June 2015

Temporary ticket hall work in Durward Street outside normal working hours Crossrail’s contractor BBMV are carrying out a programme of works in preparation for the opening of the Whitechapel Station temporary ticket hall later this year.

We previously advised you that a mobile crane would be set up through the night from 23:00 to 05:00 at the junction of Durward Street and Fulbourne Street on occasions until the end of June 2015. This will now continue on occasions until late August 2015. This crane will be used for work including the continuing programme of scaffold activity at the western end of Whitechapel Station. Scaffolding material will be installed above the temporary ticket hall, in the vicinity of the emergency staircase to the rear of the temporary ticket hall building and above the disused railway platform in Whitechapel Station. Much of this activity will take place during the day and during railway closures, however some of this activity will need to take place at night between 20:00 and 05:00 as a result of the close proximity to the operational railway. This work will take place from 15 June until 31 July 2015. The crane will be demobilised at the end of each shift or as required for emergency access. Pedestrian access will be maintained at all times. In addition to the works above, we will continue constructing the temporary ticket hall during normal working hours and proceed with our usual programme of activities in the Essex Wharf and Durward Street site during this time. During these works we will endeavour to minimise disruption to the local community. This will include using best practical means to reduce any noise generated by our works in order to meet the requirements set by the London Borough of Tower Hamlets.
