Friday 21st December 2018 Dear Parents Learning update this week … Tis the season to be jolly, fa la la la la la la la la… Well everyone it’s Christmas time once more! We have had another whirlwind of a half term. Nativities, pantos, laughter and lots and lots of learning. We have finished the term on a high by completing our work this week on The Great Fire of London. Children used the classroom technology to research the answers to some ‘burning’ questions. We have been looking at programming in ICT this week. The class went back in time to play some classic 1973 pong on the laptops, they even looked at Mr. Hopwood’s code and edited the speed that the ball traveled to make it easier or harder. We finished the week by using the skills we have learned in DT to create the wonderful festive treats that have been brought home. How can I help my child at home? Talking homework Play a game of pong on the laptop/computer with your child. Simply type in scratch tennis for two and click play. Home Learning Over the holiday period, there are some challenges that year 2 have been set. They can have a go at all challenges and we will have a display ready for anything that they do over the holiday. Spellings The spellings will be completed over the week and will consist of ten words that are completed daily. The children know the process but please could you check that they are following the look, say, cover, write, and check system. Just a reminder that to encourage learning at home children who return completed homework on the following Monday will receive one dojo point. In the best interest of your child if homework is not complete by the following Wednesday your child will miss one break in order to catch up on incomplete work. Reading books will be changed on a Thursday and as such can I ask that all book bags with the reading book and reading record are in school on this day. It is the only time in the week we have allotted to complete this task. New spellings will be given alongside homework on a Friday so can I ask that all homework is returned each week as children are missing opportunities to embed the learning from school at home. It’s just left for me to wish you all a very Merry Christmas and the happiest of New Years. Stay safe and we will see you all in 2019. Thank you for all of your support! Please come and speak to Mr. Hopwood or Mrs. Goodson if you have any questions or e-mail [email protected] Kind regards, The Year two Team
