Mission: The VABA Mission is to build character and shape lives through the game of basketball. Organized and run by the Virginia Basketball Academy this league (VDBL) is set on VABA’s two main goals: SKILL & CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT. The VDBL is designed to help young basketball players have fun learning the game of basketball in a team setting, and prepare them for the relevant possibility of playing high school basketball. As a program of VABA, a recognized 501c3/non-profit organization, the VDBL maintains the same mission and purpose, aiming to serve the extended Charlottesville-Albemarle community by funding scholarships for all interested participants.

League Structure: The VDBL-Girls is is a “developmental” league designed to help young athletes learn about the game in a team setting, develop fundamental skills, and build friendships with teammates in a fun, but challenging environment.

"In joining the VABA staff, I am really looking forward to being a part of a great organization with a great group of people! I have often heard, from many great coaches, that basketball isn't just a game, it's life, and this is something I can truly attest to. VABA doesn't just teach basketball skills. We teach life and build character, and we have fun doing it! Seeing others achieve their goals and working hard to get there is one of the most rewarding things for me, and VABA provides the opportunities for this to happen every day. I am passionate about the sport of basketball and helping kids succeed in any way I can. Whether it's learning how to shoot a free throw, making a left-handed layup or overcoming adversity, basketball and life collide every day at VABA, and I am proud to be a part of the process!"
