Spend a few days in Northern Minnesota cross-country skiing the Banadad and Central Gunflint Trail Systems. Yurts tucked into the forest will provide warmth and comfort at the end of the day. DETAILS We'll leave Hudson, WI, Thursday Feb 8 and drive up the Gunflint Trail outside of Grand Marais, MN. While we ski, our outfitter will transport all of our gear and food from yurt to yurt. We'll just carry daypacks while skiing. TRAILS We'll complete all 19 miles of the Banadad Trail System. The Banadad is rolling, but not overly difficult - it has a few memorable hills. We'll spend one day exploring some of the Central Gunflnt Trail System which has over 5o miles of trail. Those trails range from easy - advanced. DIFFICULTY Difficulty will depend on your experience skiing and level of fitness. If you have never skiied, this is probably not the trip for you. If you haven't skiied in a while, try to get out a few times prior to the trip. LODGING We stay in yurts that are cozy, but rustic. They are warmed by woodstoves and have propane energy. The kitchen is very basic, but well stocked. Each yurt has a quaint outhouse nearby. FOOD Food is included in the cost of your trip. We'll cook our meals together. We do cater to different dietary needs. GEAR You'll need to provide your own gear. Once you've registered, we'll send you a packing list of what to bring. We can also recommend local outfitters who rent skis. If you bring your own skis, MAKE SURE THEY'RE IN GOOD, WORKING ORDER. GOOD TO KNOW Most of the trails are within wilderness areas and very remote. Please be sure that you are prepared to expend a lot of energy on this trip. Emergency help may be hours or days away. Do not expect cell service in these areas. COST $250 -300 (includes transportation, gas, food, and trail passes) You will need to purchase a MN Ski Pass separately here: http://dnr.state.mn.us/licenses/skipass/index.html
