GAME ON

SCENE 2 Team is gathered and waiting for Coach to come in and start training- they chat as they wait Curtis: So if I read the information correctly, it appears that the relay race is our first activity. Jillian: That’s my favorite! John Luke: So, Jillian, what part of the part of the relay race can you actually do? Or better yet, what can you do, Sammi? I’m pretty sure video games are not part of the competition. Sammi just looks annoyed and a little hurt Jillian: That’s not very nice, John Luke. I’m sure Sammi has many talents. Sammi looks annoyed Curtis: If my calculations or correct- and I’m pretty confident that they are- I have the Chiefs beating us by 2 minutes. Now, I’ve taken the opportunity to look over your preliminary times in each leg of the race. I think that if Jillian and Sammi switch legs, we can make up those 2 minutes easily. John Luke: Alright, Einstein, I have a better idea. I know how we are guaranteed to make up those 2 minutes and more. Curtis: Alright, what’s your genius, and I use that term loosely, plan? Sammi: Let me guess, we watch you run the whole race? John Luke: Actually, that’s not a bad idea. No. I have to include you losers, here’s the plan. Do you know the section of the route when you cross over the bridge? Kids: (Ad lib) Yeah? What about it?

John Luke: That’s my leg of the race and if I cut behind the bridge, run through the trees, and jump over the little creek I can skip at least a forth of the course. This will easily shave off 5 minutes. Jillian: You’re kidding, right? That’s cheating. Curtis: Correct… completely unethical. John Luke: Well, here’s the thing. I’m sick and tired of losing to the Chiefs every year. This is a way we can finally win and I don’t care what it takes. I want to win. Coach: (Walking in from the side) What’s this I hear about losing, winning, and not caring about what that takes? Jillian: Everything is ok, Coach! We’re just trying to figure out some of the events… and the roles we’ll all play. Curtis: He was encouraging us to seek alternatives methods… um… creative ways to ensure our victory over the Chiefs. Coach: And what creative methods are you referring to? Sammi: Cheating Coach: I see. Well, let’s have a little talk before we head out to the relay. The Bible tells us that we like sheep have gone astray… that means we all want to go our own way… but don’t forget that Jesus knows our every move. I’m not sure what will happen out there in the relay, but I encourage you all to remember how BCA Braves win??? All Kids: With honesty. Kids except Jillian and John Luke start walking away Jillian: Well, John Luke. It’s up to you. What’s your choice?

EACH AND EVERY DAY

SCENE 3 Kids come in tired, and a little disappointed Coach: Well, we didn’t win, but we were a close 2nd. We gave the Chiefs a great race out there today. Jillian: Good job, everybody. Great choice, John Luke. Curtis: Coach, am I correct to say that the next event is the 3 legged race? Coach: You are correct, Curtis. And I’ve chosen you and Jillian for the job. Jillian: Awesome!! The 3 legged race is my favorite! Curtis: Great. Jillian, the Jesus girl. Sammi: I thought the relay was your favorite race? Coach: Now remember guys, in the 3 legged race you’ve got to depend on one another. You have to function as one body in order to win! Curtis: I don’t depend on anyone. I don’t depend on my parents, I don’t depend on you guys, and I certainly don’t depend on God. Jillian: Well, you’ve got to depend on something, Curtis. Curtis: You’re right - I depend on myself. John Luke: What does that mean? Curtis: It means if you are smart enough you can figure out anything and know the answer to every problem. Sammi: What about the problem of sin and hell, Curtis? Curtis: You actually believe in that? That's the problem with all of you people - you all believe in the stuff you can’t see and you can't prove!

Jillian: Actually, we can prove it. Curtis: Well I’m waiting… Prove it. Jillian: Well, just look around you. You see all of creation… trees, animals, and the kids at school. Where do you think they came from? Some big bang? Curtis: Maybe, I’m not sure. Jillian: The truth is that Earth is a gift to us from God. The Bible tells us that He created it and everything in it. That includes you. It also tells us that He loves you very much and He wants to call you His child. Sammi: Look at how great a love the Father has given us that we should be called God’s children. Coach: That’s it, Sammi. I think we’ve finally found something that you can’t quite wrap your brain around, Curtis. I think you should think about it some more. Curtis: Not so sure about that. I still have lots of questions. Coach: I understand that. I’ve got a Bible that I can give you Monday if you’d like. It has lots of answers… all the answers, really. Until then, let’s get you two tied up and see you win that 3 legged race! Kids encourage-

WE HAVE HOPE

SCENE 4 Coach: What a win for you two!!! (Kids clap and encourage) When we work as a team no one can stop us! The next competition will require us ALL to work together. John Luke: Is this the obstacle course? Coach: Yep. Sure is! But this year there is a new twist. (Kids seem confused/concerned) This year everyone will be blindfolded except one team member. That person will talk the rest of you all through the course. Kids: (Ad lib)- What? How will that work? Can we do that? I’m sure to fall. Curtis: Do you get to talk us through it Coach? Coach: Nope, but I’ve chosen who will. Jillian: It should totally be Curtis- his mind will work great for this task! John Luke: Agreed! Coach: Wrong again. It’s going to be Sammi. John Luke: SAMMI? Dude. We’re sunk. Sammi: Thanks for the vote of confidence, John Luke. I tend to agree though. I’d rather just listen and take the easy task. For that matter, I’d rather just sit here and watch you all. Coach: This is exactly why I chose you, Sammi. I need you to be a leader. Sammi: Coach. I don’t want to be a leader. That’s not who I am. Coach: Here’s the deal, Sammi. I remember a couple summers ago that you accepted Jesus as your Savior. Is that right? Sammi: Yeah. I did. Coach: Well, let me ask you this then. Have you made Him Lord?

Curtis: What does it mean to make Jesus Lord? I need to understand this Savior and Lord stuff. Jillian: Well, we are all sinners. Curtis: Sinners? Jillian: Yeah. Sinners. That means we have all sinned- made mistakes- and we’ve gone against God. Coach: Correct. Sammi, why don’t you tell us us how you accepted Jesus as Savior? Sammi: I realized that I had disobeyed my parents and teachers. I went against what God’s word teaches us. That means that I couldn’t be with God in heaven when I die because God can’t be in the presence of sin. I didn’t want to spend eternity separated from God. Curtis: Yeah, that’s quite the conundrum. Coach: It really is. But God gave us a great solution to the problem of sin. Sammi: I learned at VBS that Jesus came and lived a perfect… sinless.. life, died on the cross for my sin, and was raised from the dead three days later so that my sin could be atoned for. Curtis: Atoned? Sammi: Yeah, he took the punishment for my sin and for your sin and for the sin of all mankind so that we don’t have to take the eternal punishment. He died so that I didn’t have to. Coach: That’s a great way to explain it, Sammi. Curtis: Coach, I want to get a copy of the Bible if you’re still open to giving me one. Coach: Absolutely! Back to the obstacle course for a minute- we need YOU, Sammi. Just like Jesus wants you off the sidelines telling your friends about the hope we have in

Him, we need you to be our leader now in this obstacle course. Can you do that? I know you don’t feel like you can, but we gotta get you in the game! Jillian: What are you waiting for, Sammi? Obstacle courses are my favorite! Let’s go! Kids laugh/(Ad lib)- oh boy, here we go again… Sammi: I’ll do my best. John Luke: That’s all we want you to do. Let’s go Braves! Kids run off stage cheerful

GET IN THE GAME

SCENE 5 Kids run on stage cheerful, encouraging Sammi, Jillian is out of the box excited! Jillian: Sammi! You did it! I knew you could do it! John Luke: Yeah! Dude, we won because of your leadership! Jillian: You’re so right, John Luke! I could have never done what you did, Sammi! You were so calm, and patient, and so great with those directions. Curtis: Your instructions were very precise. I must give you that! Jillian: I can’t remember the last time I was so excited!!! Sammi: What are you talking about? You’re ALWAYS excited! Kids laugh/giggle Curtis: Agreed. When I hear your name the first words that come to mind are ecstatic, jubilant, delighted, upbeat, cheerful, and joyful. Why? I seriously don’t get it. Jillian: Oh, I have an easy answer for that, Curtis! JESUS! It’s all Jesus! He saved me from my sin and made a way for me to spend eternity with Him. He helps me when I have hard days. He’s the reason that I sing and I can always celebrate Him! Sammi: You need to take Coach up on His offer, Curtis. Jillian: Yes! You do! When we recognize Jesus is our Savior and when we make Him Lord of our lives He can give anyone a deep Joy… that doesn’t mean we don’t have problems or we aren’t ever sad or angry, it means that we know that we can praise him in the struggle and in the storms because we know that Jesus is Lord. John Luke: You’re right, Jillian. We should celebrate and give Him thanks for all He’s given us!

JOY

SCENE 6 Curtis: I think I’m ready to talk to Coach. Will you guys go with me? I’m kinda scared. John Luke: Dude, Yes! Let’s go! Jillian: I’m so excited! Talking about Jesus is my favorite!! Kids laugh Sammi: Well, that’s it. You’re really gearing up for the game of life, Curtis. It will be the best decision you ever make! That’s super cool. Coach will be super siked to hear about your decision. Curtis: I’m pretty excited myself… still a little scared though. John Luke: Makes sense. The good news is that the Bible tells us that His divine power has given us everything required for life and Godliness through the knowledge of him who called us by His glory and goodness. Jillian: It also says that He will never leave us alone. He sends the Holy Spirit to live in us and lead us. Sammi: Yeah. He can do things in us that we can’t do for ourselves. Curtis: Ok. I’m so glad I have you guys to help me. This field day has rocked! John Luke: Let’s go! Game on!

GAME ON!

FINE!
