Recognizing Our Graduates: With the absence of traditional ceremonies this year, we are eager to celebrate our high school graduates in the Gary/Winfield Church family by sending cards, notes, or email messages to arrive around May 23. To participate, contact the Church Office for a list of the graduates’ names, addresses, and email addresses. Additionally, we will list all those who are graduating from high school, college, or vocational school in the next Chimes. Please contact the Church Office with the graduate’s name, school of graduation, intended college/degree, or other details by Monday, May 11. 2020 UM General Church Meetings Postponed: The General Conference of the UM Church has been tentatively rescheduled for Aug. 31–Sept. 10, 2021 in Minneapolis, MN. Debate of the proposals regarding the future of the UM Church will be delayed until this meeting. The NIC Annual Conference and the North Central Jurisdictional Conference have also been postponed. Stay Connected to the Mission Local Ministry Partners: • ESSE Adult Day Services: ESSE’s only fundraiser this year will be through Giving DuPage Days, an online fundraising event. To contribute, go to givingdupageday.org through May 14 and enter ESSE under “Find an Organization.” • Community Garden: Help provide fresh produce to local food banks through our garden located at Winfield Community UMC. Garden activities consist of watering, weeding, grass mowing, pruning, harvesting, and delivery to food banks. All activities can be done on your own time using “social distancing” principles. Schedule the day(s) and times of your choice for any task you choose throughout the summer. Contact Fred Wayland through the Church Office. • Northern Illinois Foodbank: During the month of May, the United Methodist Foundation of the Northern Illinois Conference will match dollar-for-dollar your donation to three food banks—including the Northern Illinois Foodbank—for a total match of $50,000.
